MEXICO CITY The Mexi can stock market took a rollercoaster tumble Tues day at one point taking its worst singleday fall since 1987 then regaining ground to close per cent lower The day was one of the most volatile for the market since Mexi cos financial problems snowballed into a crisis three weeks ago At its worst point the market dipped nearly 11 percent with bro kers telling clients to sell no matter the cost Later bargain hunters snapped up battered stocks and the state development bank Nacional Financiera made purchases traders said The selling spilled into other Latin markets and jolted more investors who have been hanging onto their Mexican securities despite repeatedly punishing losses since December Russia Ceasefire collapses 2 GROZNY Chechen rebels scrambled Tuesday to bury comrades whiteshrouded corpses and reinforce their presiden tial palace during a ceasefire that collapsed in hours heralding more fighting ahead The proposed 48hour truce announced by Moscow early Tues day was designed to allow both sides to gather dead and wounded while civilians fled Grozny But it proved a fleeting pause in the battle for the Chechen capital devastated by a monthlong siege and 11 days of a Russian ground attack launched to quell a secession ist uprising i Sniper fire sounded throughout the truce which crumbled after four hours The Associated Press Obituaries Homer
