state Associated Press Scattered clouds crept into far West Texas and over the southern coast Tuesday but skies were mostly clear and sunny elsewhere the National Weather Service said A high pressure system over North Texas pushed afternoon tem peratures above normal into the middle and upper 70s Some southwest sections reported tem peratures in the lower 70s South Texas had temperatures in the 70s reaching the 80s in the tower Rio Grande Valley Midafternoon temperatures were in the 60s to mid70s in West Texas West Texas had winds from the south at 10 to 20 mph east of the mountains Light winds were re ported in the far west 18yearold man shot in shoulder during argument By JANICE SIMON The Daily News GALVESTON An 18yearold man was shot in the left shoulder Tuesday morning after an argu ment erupted between him and an other man in the 2800 block of Church Street police said Police found the injured man sit ting outside a bar with a bullet wound to his left shoulder reports state He was treated at a Univer sity of Texas Medical Branch hos pital and released Investigators have questioned both men and the case has been referred to a grand jury to decide if any charges should be filed po lice said Police Woman GALVESTON A 19yearold woman was arrested Tuesday on a grand jury indictment charging her with drug sales police said The woman reportedly sold or fake ecstacy on one oc casion in a Market Street night club police said Selling a simulat ed controlled substance is a felony Three people were arrested and charged Friday night for reported ly selling ecstacy to undercover police officers during a months long investigation reports state A fourth turned herself in to authori ties on Monday Tammy Rena Hernandez 19 of 1818 David St was charged with delivery of simulated controlled substance Bond was set at Two men robbed GALVESTON Two elderly Galveston men were robbed Mon day night within five minutes of each other in unrelated incidents police said A 62yearold man was walking in the 3700 block of Avenue M about when he heard someone behind him asking for a light police said The man kept walking and a second man asked him for all of his money reports state The elderly man handed over in cash and two money orders for reports state No charges have been filed A 75yearold man was robbed of when he was walking in the 2100 block of Church Street about police said One of two men who approached him report edly pulled a 5inch knife and de manded money The man handed over his mon ey and the two robbers fled police said No charges have been filed Woman assaulted by boyfriend GALVESTON The boyfriend of a 27yearold woman reportedly grabbed her by the throat and banged her head into a wall Tues day morning during an argument police said The boyfriend had become up set started an argument and as saulted her about in the 2300 block of 30th Street police said No charges have been filed and the case was referred to the dis trict attorneys office police said Men arrested in assault cases GALVESTON Two men were arrested Friday by juvenile au thorities on charges of sexual mis conduct with their stepdaughters in unrelated incidents police said A 19yearold man was accused of sexually assaulting his 4year old stepdaughter in early July po lice said Robert Gamble 19 of 815 Postoffice was charged with ag gravated sexual assault Gambles bond was set at A 36yearold man was arrested after he was accused of molesting his stepdaughter police said Jose Falcon 36 of 2809 Ave N was charged with indecency with a child Bond was set at Armed robberies GALVESTON An undeter mined amount of cash was taken from two Circle K convenience stores that were robbed Tuesday night police said The stores were located at 56th Street and Seawall Boulevard and 49th Street and Broadway Man convicted of indecency with a child By SULIPSA LUQUE The Daily News GALVESTON Jurors found a Galveston man guilty of indecency with a child Tues day after the thirdgrader took the stand and described the mans attempt to lure him into engaging in sexual activities Earl James Rhrodes 21 was convicted of indecency with a child committed on June 11 District Court Judge Henry G Dalehite ordered a presentence investigation before assessing punishment in the case This charge is a thirddegree felony punishable by between two and 10 years in a state prison Rhrodes was at the boys home after being hired to fix a broken refrigerator the boys mother testified The boy said Rhrodes of fered him money to engage in a sexual act but he refused He said Rhrodes then took him to his bedroom where the as sault occurred The boy said that immedi ately after the incident he went to tell his father about the abuse The father said he told Rhrodes to leave the house and called the police Defense attorney Gerson Bloom said his client cooperat ed with police by supplying them with hair samples and other information The incon sistencies in the allegations shouldnt have been enough to convict his client add ed Shooting suspect claims man put curse on him By JANICE SIMON The Dally News TEXAS CITY A 58yearold man was arrested Tuesday after he reportedly shot at his neigh bors car because he believed the neighbor had put a curse on him and his family police said Both men who live in 200 block of Estelle Circle were driving in the 5200 block of Palmer Highway about 3 when one pulled over to the side of the road and shot at the others car several times po lice said The man with the gun continued driving down Palmer Highway un til he was stopped by an offduty police officer who was directing traffic reports state Officer Scott saw that the man had a gun and motioned for him to put it down reports state The man was arrested and a 38 caliber revolver six used 38cali ber shells and a folding knife were found in his car police said The neighbor was on his way to the police station when he saw the man being arrested reports state Three bullet holes were found in the back of the neighbors car po lice said The man who was arrested told police his neighbor had put a curse on him and his family and he want ed to put a stop to it reports state Tom Jarmon 58 of 215 Es telle Circle was charged with at tempted murder and unlawfully carrying a weapon Teenager arrested ALGOA A 15yearoJd boy was arrested Sunday in Algoa after an investigation by several law en forcement agencies linked him to as many as 20 burglaries a Gal veston County Sheriffs Depart ment report states The boy was charged with pos session of LSD burglary auto theft and escape from the Crocket State School Investigating officers from the Galveston County Organized Crime Control Unit the Sheriffs Department the Santa Fe Police Department the Clute Police De partment and the Galveston Police Department burglary task force also are investigating the boy in connection with burglaries and auto thefts in their areas reports state OCCU and Santa Fe officials be lieve the boy was responsible for as many as 20 of the burglaries that have occurred on the south side of Santa Fe and Alta Loma reports state The boy also may be responsible for about six auto thefts in Galveston and Brazoria Counties The boy was turned over to Gal veston County juvenile authorities and will be returned to the Crock ett State School following the com pletion of local investigations Convenience store robbed TEXAS CITY A clerk at the Stop N Go convenience store at 1025 Fifth Ave was reportedly robbed of about Tuesday after a man grabbed her by the hair and put a knife to her throat police said The man came into the store and handed the woman a dime to pay for a piece of candy at about police said The man grabbed the money and ran out of the store Man jumped by group TEXAS CITY A 38yearold in toxicated man was beaten kicked and robbed by a group of six men Tuesday while he was at a vacant lot on Sixth Street and First Ave nue North police said The attackers knocked the man down and kicked him several times before turning his pockets inside out and taking his money police said About was taken The man was treated by the Gal veston County Emergency Medical Service police said He refused Woman tries to hang herself TEXAS CITY A woman pris oner in the City Jail tried to hang herself Monday night with two shoelaces she had tied together police said The woman who was arrested on traffic
