Piano identity ji ui tin sxi n SIXSHOOTER LANE One of the more interesting groupings of names is near Custer Road and Spring Creek Parkway where each street is namedafter a pistol or rifle such as a Ruger handgun or Sako a German sniper rifle By Allen Houston Staff Writer St Andrews Court Walden and Royal Palm are street names that resonate at the core of West Pianos identity and all of them were the invention of Piano resident Bill Shaddock Mr Shaddock was the devel oper for many West Piano neighborhoods such as The Creeks of Willow Bend Willow Bend Polo Estates Willow Bend North Willow Bend Estates Willow Bend Place Kings Court and Castle Myer I spend a lot of time think ing about street names because they are so important Mr Shaddock said A good street name can create a mental image for the homebuyer Developers are the ones responsible for coming up with street names that build identity and add zest to a neighborhood He or she sub mits a list of proposed names to the city of Piano engineer ing department After that the list goes to the fire department where it is vetted to make sure that none of the streets sound too similar to existing streets Its a publicsafety issue in case cast ings They are an appreciation for the female form Carolina Robinson West Piano artist I was surprised to find out that I was good at art she said And surprised that peo ple would pay money for my work Mrs Robinsons makeshift studio in her dining room is full of bright colorful paint ings sketchbooks and her most recent project body castings Body castings are taken from the mold of a persons Andrews Special Contributor The splash of the water and bang of a pistol are familiar sounds to the Piano Wet Cats a masters swim team made up of about 160 adults ages 19 to 70 that practices at Oak Point I Center Coached by Bob Solovv this diverse group ol men and women come together to com pete in national and world events and just to stay in shape Sometimes its frustrating as a coach when theyre not train ing for anything and just want to stay in shape They are all here for different reasons and you have to respect that Mr Solovv said during a recent afternoon practice The Wet Cats have three chances to practice each day at am am or noon Their practices usually last an hour swimming 3500 yards a session 1 swim to stay in ihnjv It1 just so much fun and 1 love the water said
