Cambodians Beat Back Red Attack CAMBODIA. (AP) An out- numbered' Cambodian regiment fought off a savage night-fang Communist counterattack '.to- day and repaired a serious breach in Phnom Penh's outer defense ring. Officers at the scone said It was the heaviest fighting of the war so close lo Ihe Cambodian capital. Cambodian boats, some of them barges with small cannons bolted lo their decks, joined ar- tillery to pound the enemy troops while Cambodia's tiny air force carried out some of its most- intensive raids of the war virtually around the clock. No American jets joined the battle, although some U.S. re- connaissance planes swept low over the battlefield during the day, gelling fresh intelligence on enemy troop locations to re- lay to Phnom Penh from Sai- gon. The Cambodian regiment pushed through light resistance Monday to recapture tiie Me- kong Hiver village of Prek Ta- meak, nine miles north of Phnom Penh. Until the village was taken hack, officers said, government control on the east bank of the Mekong had col- lapsed lo such a point that North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces were virtually with- in rocket and mortar range of the capital. Monday night, four to Jive en- emy battalions hurled them- selves at three government bat- talions that had not had time lo dig in. The enemy troops opened up with a heavy mortar barrage al 10 p.m. and followed up wilh virtually continuous infantry as- saults until dawn. Rochester Couple Dies In Accident nOCHESTER-Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Brislow of Rochester died of injuries received when the car driven by Mr. Bristow ran off Northwest Highway in Dallas and overturned in a field Monday night. Mrs. Brislow died at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning' In Parkland Hospital In Dallas, where the couple was lakcn.
