unconstitutional COLUMBUS AP Ohios guest passenger statute which bars passengers in an auto accident from suing the cars driver for negligence was struck down today by the Ohio Supreme Court The court in a unanimous decision said the 42yearold law is unconstitutional because it denies accident victims equal protection under the law The court said there is no valid justification for treating guests different from paying passengers Justice William B Brown In the courts opinion said the law was enacted for two reasons to prevent fraudulent conspiracies between driver and passenger and to preserve the concept of BUT WHILE those two aims may at times be worthy Brown said they do not justify barring all suits The courts ruling came in an Akron case involving a group of golfers who rode together changes charged by electric utilities to two a year and require Public Utilities Commission of Ohio PUCO approval for them The bill is sponsored by Maier and three other GOP members of the legislatures Joint Select Committee on Energy It follows recommendations in the committees minority report released last Thursday THE REPUBLICAN bill would require the PUCO to conduct hearings and act
