New Mexican (Newspaper) - October 2, 2005, Santa Fe, New Mexico NFL Sunday October 2 2005 THE NEW MEXICAN B5 TODAY ON TV Broncos 21 at Jaguars 11 CBS Rams 21 at Giants 11 FOX Cowboys 21 at Raiders FOX Cardinals 03 vs 49ers ESPN Raiders9 Moss getting under Cowboys skin By Todd Archer The Dallas Morning News SAN JOSE Calif Randy Moss seems made for Oaklands silver and black He is a verticalpassinggame dream He has that Idpntcarewhatyouthink confidence He strikes fear into defenses In his first three games out of Minnesota Moss has 15 catches for 343 yards and two touchdowns Great numbers for almost any receiver but not for Moss I think everybody is looking for that spectacular Oakland coach Norv Turner said I believe hes going to have games like that but along the way hell have games like hes had I know what the expectation level is Weve got to give him as many chances as we can When hes opening up things for other guys we have to understand thats part of the equation of Randy being But the Cowboys have been Moss elixir When Moss sees the Cowboys he remem bers the anger from being passed over in the 1998 draft never mind that 16 other teams said no to him too The Cowboys have paid ever since In five games he has 25 catches for 552 yards His 10 touchdown catches against Dallas are the most of any nondivision foe He has averaged yards per catch against the Cowboys the highest among teams against which he has at least five catches More importantly Minnesota won every game Oakland winless through three games would love to see the same benefit today Moss success against the Cowboys in last years season opener was not about quantity He caught just four passes for 27 yards but he caught touchdown passes of one and three yards However the Cow boys were so focused on Moss that they let other people hurt them Eight other Vikings caught passes Quarterback Daunte Cul pepper had five touchdown passes Moss even completed a pass for 37 yards We have to be aware of where he is all the Parcells said The Cowboys have been susceptible to the big play Last week San Franciscos Brandon Lloyd beat Anthony Henry for an 89yard touchdown play The week before against Washington Santana Moss caught touchdown passes of 39 and 70 yards In the opener Chargers quarterback Drew Brees had a 33yard completion Off to a slow start by his stan dards Raiders receiver Randy Moss center hopes for a big game against the Dallas Cow boys a team that passed him over in the 1998 NFL draft Moss has 10 touch downs in five career games versus Dallas Rusty Kennedy The Associated Press Broncos No more Florida flops By Eddie Pells The Associated Press DENVER its not the heat its the humility The ineptitude began in 1966 a 247 loss to Miami at the Orange Bowl that came before any of the current Denver Bron cos were born It has continued right through this month with a 3410 loss at Dolphins Stadium in which the Broncos were ill prepared for the weather the long trip or their opponent Denvers next trip to Florida comes Sunday against the Jack sonville Jaguars The Broncos are 210 in their 46year history in the Sunshine State a com bined 09 at Miami and Jack sonville The hotter the Jaguars linebacker Mike Peter son said Twoand10 doesnt sound right I like twoandU That sounds In Denvers most recent Flor ida flop the heat and humidity clearly played a factor Cornerbacks Darrent Wil liams and Lenny Walls cramped up and had to leave the game When it was over coach Mike Shanahan blamed the offense for the problems saying Denvers lfor12 on thirddown conversions forced the defense to stay on the field for too long If you cant get drives going and the defense is out there continuously someones going to wear out sooner or said Shanahan who voiced no concerns with the way the team prepared for the conditions in Florida Temperatures are expected in the mid80s and humiditythis time of year can still be high Both teams however are down playing weather for this game Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio is having his team wear dark uni forms Were in October Del Rio said The Broncos meanwhile are preparing for business as usual Were getting ready to play a tough Jacksonville Jaguars said defensive lineman Gerard Warren who played his college ball at Florida Theiweather shouldnt be that big a deal In Denvers only two trips to Jacksonville weather has been a factor once In 1999 a driving rainstorm soaked the second half of the Monday night game bringing both offenses to a halt Until that is the very end when the Jaguars outscored Denver iO7 over the last 2 minutes en route to a 2724 victory Last September Jacksonville won 76 on a 78degree day unusually cool for that time of year While the heat may not have been a factor some thought Shanahans thought process was askew With time running out he opted against a goahead field goal instead calling a running play that resulted in a botched exchange between Jake Plummer and Quentin Griffin and a lost fumble I think they all stick with you when you Shanahan said You go back and you take a look at the film But thats history You try to make sure it doesnt happen Week 4 Preview
