New Mexican (Newspaper) - October 2, 2005, Santa Fe, New Mexico KRT The addition of skis to EAs SSX series hardly sounds like an earthshattering development but its really more exciting than it seems ar ame tackles skiing SSX ON TOUR EABig Systems PS2 Xbpx Game Cube Price Style Ito4 player Rated E for Everyone Release Oct 18 Gamers used to EA Sports schedule of yearly installments for its titles might be bummed that EABigs SSX series isnt in their grubby little hands more often However the extra time lets the team sit back and take a hard lookat what needs to be done to the franchise to move it forward The addition of skis to the series hardly sounds like shattering development but then you havent gotten your hands on it like we have Skiing is of course older than snowr boarding but while the boarding was once considered cuttingedge skiing is enjoying a renaissance Wild stylish skiers are pushing the envelope and redefining what can be done on theslopes This movement is also reenergiz ing SSX In our time with the game we found that while skiing felt familiar to us it was different enough to feel like a totally fresh approach It was incredibly smooth and the fact that you could ride anid switch in and out of fakie ridifag backward moves predict that once you strap those suck ers on you wont go back to your boring old snowboard Both styles of riding benefit from the new way to initiate Monster tricks in the game These are available once you charge up your rider after pulling enough cool moves Time will slow down allowing youto focus on pulling off new right analog stick tricks Pushing the stick in one of eight directions does firstlevel Monster tricks Turning and twisting the right analog around after you pull the first trick accesses the second and third lev els The SSX On Tour experience is also being expanded through sheer size The game not only contains the usual races and medal competitions of past SSX versions but it also includes Shred events which are more oneonone challenges like finding icons in a race through an environment or a trickoff with another character With a more seamless nature of the game these Shred events are merely smaller sections of much larger runs T ones that you can bomb straight through if you so choose Unfortunately were a bit baffled by EA Canadas decision not to include online multiplayer capability Apart from the sheer fun of it it seems like a natural fit for On Tours focus on individuality through custom What better way to show the world what youre made This omission aside its hard to deny the exciting new directions the series is going in Game Informer Magazine Do You Guru THE COMPUTER GURU Systems Service and Support to Keep You Happy Productive and Prosperous All Year Round 844 Agua Fria at St Francis 9928462 TuesSat 10AM6PM SantaFeNewMexican com hotels food sights jobs real estate virtual tours news weather events calendar The New Mexican magazine Oct 28 2005 SUNDAY 19 ;
