POWELL PHILADELPHIA Pa Iowa came to Philadelphia Monday night it was the Iowa of 1912 seen through a happy nostalgic glow by Mason Citys Meredith Willson in the world premier at the Shu bert Theater of his Broadwaybound musical play The Music Man In one of the most distinguished theater openings of recent years a packed house brilliantly sparkling with celebrities from New York and Philadelphia greeted sons music book and lyrics with cheers and enthusiastic applause Seldom in recent times has a show been so much the product of one mans art Certainly never has Iowa received so warm lov ing satisfy a momentary caprice A three judge Japanese court gave him a threeyear suspended prison sen tence and put him on probation for a fourth year Girard called the verdict after the threemonth trial
