Farmer Gas Tax Crack Down on Violaters DES MOINES 300 Iowa farmers are going to get letters From the state treasurer requiring satisfactory evidence before the farmers can collect on applications for gasoline tax refunds Earle Smith director of the mo tor vehicle fuel tax division in th treasurers office said Wednesda 300 forms on which the farmer will be required to submit addi tional information are ready t go Others will be mailed daily from now on Smith added NonHighway Use The treasurers office decided tt seek the additional information on the basis of indications that cer tain farmers have been for refunds on gasoline purchasec for nonhighway use even though using some of it in their cars anc trucks The 300 forms will go out on the basis of preliminary audits of re fund applications Smith said thai in the 300 cases the amount of re funds sought appeared to be ex He added These 300 cases are those which piled up in only a few days pending preliminary audits Refund appli cations are coming in quite heav ily now As we check them similar forms will be sent to cases where the amounts asked appear to be ex cessive Payments will be held up pend ing receipt of satisfactory evidence that the refund applied for was on gasoline used in agricultural im plements If we do not receive an answer there will be no refund 10Day Period The farmers will be given reasonable 10 to file the Refunds may be applied for in three calendar months after the earliest purchase The forms sent out will require the farmer to get the signature of the person who sold gasoline for the farmers cars and trucks showing the number of gallons purchased in the previous three months WILBER M BRUCKER McCarthy replied that the Senate has a right to advise the President
