With Chinatown Film Darktown Scandals heralded as the fastest and flashiest allcol 1 ored stage revue on tour during the current season has been obtained by Manager Tom Arthur as the fea ture attraction for the Cecil the aters combination stage and screen program this Saturday and Sunday Combining the fascination of Harlem night club music with the soothingrhythm of Dixie this re vue will offer some of the best en tertainment yet to be provided the Cecils stage show series Recording Artist Sings Ida Cox nationally known blui singer who has made numerous r cordings is the featured artis while all accompaniment is capaK handled by the Cotton Pickers stage band with a repertory fair studded with novelty and so artists not tne least of whom Ned Stanfield king of the ivories Dance rhythm sizzling hot pe petrated by a chorus of a doze girls and true Negro harmony b the Troubador sextet round out th revue The cast includes 35 per sons Chinatown Mystery Chinatown Squad the scree feature takes place in the myster ious inner passages of San Fran Ciscos oriental district where th old adage Murder Will Out doe not always hold true Latecomers can see complete per formances ot both the stage show and the picture by virtue of a spe cial 11 oclock show Saturday night Charles City News Damage Suit Is Filed in Accident CHARLES CITY July petition was filed in the district court of OBrien county asking damages against Walter E Grohe formerly of Storm Lake but of Hartley Iowa The case is brought as the result of an automo bile accident last October which oc curred on the C M St Paul and P railroad crossing west of Charles City on highway 218 Miss Ruby Guenther Edward Bluhm Marvin Soehrea Stanley ODowd and Runyard were riding in an driven by Mr Grohe The car crashed into a freight train and Miss Guenther was hilled and the others severely injured For the death of Miss Guenther is asked and 56000 is asked for injuries to Edward Bluhm and 52500 for injuries to Marvin Soeh ren uverne Man Injured Is Caught in Hay Rope LUVERNE July jreen son of Elmer Green was adly injured when his hands were aught in a hay rope which he was rying to untangle His hands were aught in the rope and he was lifted everal feet off the ground when he rope broke The middle finger as taken off at the first joint and s fingernails were torn loose from oth hands One leg and one arm ere badly injured Mr Green is mployed on the Mike Stripling arm and has a wife and three mall children He will be unable to k for some time Building Will Be Put Up for Produce Firm CHARLES CITY July Pyle Produce company in the block east of the city hall has been changed to Pyle and Schotfelt through the sale of the interest of Frank Pyle to Lloyd Schotfelt Earl Pyle is the other member of the firm which has purchased fromthe city one lot near their place of busi ness on the corner of Wisconsin street and Riverside drive The firm will soon begin the erection of hollow faced tile building 44 by 50 feet to house their produce business office will be on the corner of the building facing Wisconsin street There will also be a separate room candling room and res troom A 16 foot space will be re served at the rear of the building for loading poultry The floor of th new building will be concrete Work will start about Aug 1 When th new building is completed the pres ent produce building will be torn down Catches Unusual Fish CHARLES CITY July Edgar Baily caught a 14 inch bow trout in the Cedar river near Quimby Springs Wednesday eve ning According to local sportsmen this kind of fish is rare here Otherj in the fishing party were Mrs Bailey Andrew Hauser and William Blmnenstiel Mr and Mrs Bailey each caught their limit including one 15 inch small mouthed bass anc several which measured 14 inches The large bass was entered in the Floyd County Conservation clubs fishing contest Charles City Briefs CHARLES CITY July Russell Nies entertained at a bridge dinner last evening jn honor of Miss Marian Frederickson who will be married Sunday to Dr George Folkman of DesMoines Wednesday iafternoon Miss Dorothy Doerfler entertained at a bridge luncheon for Miss Frederickson her classmate at Grinnell college Covers were ar ranged for 10 intimate friends of the brideelect Robert Hering left yesterday for Iowa City where he has accepted a position for the summer and school year which will be spent at Iowa university Martin Grimes received word of the death of his brother William Grimes at his home in New Hamp ton following a years illness Fu neral services were held yesterday Mr and Mrs Carlisle Ellis and Mr and Mrs Horace Olds are the committee in charge of the country club supper dance tonight j Mrs Kurtz Funeral to Be Held Saturday at M E Church Garner GARNER July ser vices for Mrs Walter Kurtz 43 who died Wednesday night at a Forest City hospital will be held at the First Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2 oclock preceded by a service in the Kurtz home in Gar ner The Rev T Ernest Hoon pas tor will be in charge Born in Illi nois she came with her parents the late Mr and Mrs Phillip Kehl to Corwith where she spent her youth She was a member of the First Methodist church here and of the lo cal Rebekah lodge She was married to Walter Kurtz four years ago last April She had been in failing health for about one year and underwent an operation for the removal of an abdominal tumor at the Forest City hospital Monday of this week Surviving are her husband Walter irothers Albert of near Klemme Wesley of Corwith Mrs Lillian Hoick of Kanawha and Clara and Esther Kehl of Corwith and five stepchildren Hazel 16 at home Ernest and Verne of Des Moines Mrs Lela Cordle of Mason and Clifford in Missouri City Unusual Flint Stone Collection Is Owned by H J Eastman Dows DOWS July unusual flint and stone collection is owned by H J Eastman of Dows Some of the stones came from Fayette county Ohio and some from Iowa He has a stone ax which weighs 6 pounds and is 8 inches long one of the finest specimens of that type picked up in Franklin county He also has mauls the largest weighing more than five pounds A stone tube in the collection i a rare relic and its use is unknown A stone ball pestles tomahawk anc stone axes are included Mr East man also has a fine collection of lint spear points and arrow heads NEW GMEN FILM ON PALACE BILL Let Em Have It Public Enemy No 1 played by Bruce Cabot and his gang of kidnapers holdup men and bank robbers as they careen madly across the middle west leaving a shocking trail of death and destruc tion Kidnap Attempt The romance is supplied by Vir ginia Bruce who plays the society girl victim of Cabots kidnap at tempt and ArlenEric Linden is seen as her young brother who meets death at the end of a gang the ay crop By night the hay was all the barn ready for winter use r McPhail suffered a stroke of aralysis last week Bundle of Clothing Is Found in River Tags Were Still Attached ALGONA July two small children of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Elbert of Algona laying along the east fork of the Des Moines river just west of the bridge Wednesday evening when they saw a bundle of clothing floating down the river They fished it out and found the bundle to contain 10 suits of mens trous ers four extra pairs of trousers and vesta Sheriff Carl Dahlhauser was notified and after inspection found the clothes to be of an old stylesuits They apparently had never been worn as tags and la bels were still on them The bun dle was securely tied W H Ze linsky state man from the bureau of investigation of Des Moines was to elude capture he visits a plastic surgeon forcing the doctor to alter his features as to make him unrec ognizable to the federal officers who are on his trail For 10 days during the filming of handsome Practically every one of them was expertly contorted through the wiz ardy of the makeup artist When Cabot was strapped up for these scenes it took the combined efforts of three men to complete the work in approximately six hours Every day at early dawn he went through this routine and every night the plastic mask was taken off j Spencer Tracy has for the first time in his career an outandout comedy role in Its a Small World at the Palace with Let Em Have It He portrays a wiseacre lawyer whose car is smashed in a headon collision and who tries to get his revenge on the girl in
