department bread had to look delicious and to taste as it looked The exhibit was proof of the old jixiom that seeing is believing loaves looked good and they Vere I But tho bread is the staff of life the tair We eat what we can and what iprp can t we can say the house tat to prove it there were Jfows and rows of canned vegetables fruits and meat in tne exhibit Shining jars filled with fresh the northwest cor ner of Iowa away from most of the principal highways this little town s becoming a mecca for tourists from all sections of the country thru its Grotto of the Redemption The grotto built entirely of multi coloredstones is yet only half com pleted hut thebeauty of the fin ished sections is such that thous ands come to West Bend each year it and its construction is theplan of the Rev P M Dobber Btein pastor of Sts Peter and Pauls Catholic church here Already he has devoted more than six years to the work and as many more prob ably will be needed to complete his plans the work will de pict in stones the story of the world from the time ofthe Garden of Eden down to the present according to FatherDobberstein To date he has used 11 freight car loads of se lected materials in the project and he estimates he will need 13 more carloads Total cost will be about estimated NO Claims of Cures Noclaims of miraculous cures are made forthe grotto but its creator believes those who visit itwillleave with the intention to serve God bet ter To the north of the grotto Father Dobbersteinhas constructed a lake surrounded by a park of shade trees Benches and tables are pro vided for Dobbersteinalready has visited every statein inquestof certainores minerals rock for matioris which he uses Because the materials cannot be purchasedin mass quantities it frequently is nec essary for him to stop work on one section and proceed with another untilsuch time as the needed rocks can be had present time he is recov ered from severe injuries suffered in a motor car crash In the event of
