Hopkins city manager Wed nesday Chief Shire credits this record to he regular inspections made in the business district which made it un necessary to lay and charge a line of hose on Federal avenue from Sixth street north to Sixth street routh from Feb 14 1928 to March 7 1929 and the cause of the last rire which occurred on March 27 svas incendiarism This record is un precedented in the and util ities or 16 per cent for commercial buildings and or 10 per cent for residential build ings During the first two months of this year there was worth of new construction work contract ed for in Iowa as compared with worth contracted for dur ing the first two months of last year the increase being 3 per cent Liverhiore Man Is Victim of Holdup HUMBOLDT April W White former citizen here who op erates a store at Livermore Huni boldt county was the victim of a holdup late Saturday night as he returned to his home after closing his place of business near midnight As he drove his car to the garage near his home two men robbed hihi of his bill book which contained At it was dark near his gar age it was impossible to get an ac curate description of the robbers Officers were called from here but have made no arrests LOCAL LEADERS AT HONOR COURT J C Underwood and Ralph Stanberry Attend Scout Meeting at Rockford J C Underwood scout executive and Ralph Stanbery attended the Boy Scout court of honor meeting of Ftoyd and Butler counties held at Rockford Tuesday evening The Rev C B Luce district court of honor committee chairman presided over the meeting and was assisted by Henry Lucas Nora Springs Harold Priem Nora Springs J M Miller Rockford Dr A F Bronson Nora Springs and Ralph Stanbery The aggregation from Greene and Marble Rock and towns south were unable to get to the court ol honor because of the condition of the roads Jlorc than 100 scouts and visitors attended the meeting which opened with a number by the Rockford high school orchestra in charge of J M Miller Sounded Assembly Assembly was sounded by Bugler George Dunkelberg followed by the parade of colors and candidates led by F E Trigg scoutmaster troop 2T ofRockford The entire audience sang one verse of America which was followed by the invocation by the Rev C E Luce G H Galvin Rockford wel comed the visitors and friends and introduced tho Rev Mr Luce who In turn Introduced the district court of honor members and explained the purpose of the court of honor All candidates for advancement were recommitted to the scout oath by Henry Lucas after which candi dates for second class and first class badges were awarded their honors from Harold Priem Scout Executive Underwood in troduced the scoutmasters present and also Robert Moody one of the two candidates representing the North Iowa council at the interna tional jamboree to be held in Eng land thfs summer J M Miller presented the second class merit badges Presented Budges Presentation of first class merit badges was handled by Dr A F Bronson after which Ralph Stan bery gave a brief explanation of the summer camp The closing ceremony which con sisted of the retreat of the colors the scoutmasters admonition and taps was handled by Theodore Kur kow Rockford The areawide court of honor which will be for all troops in this district will be held May 17 ac cording to W P Butler chairman of the area court of honor commit Y W SWIMMING CLASS THURSDAY EVE CANCELLED Miss Stephanie Schultz physi cal director at the Y W C A announces that there will be no evening classes in swimming Thursday after 6 oclock because of the spring
