offered to Bijou patrons with no advance in prices The nationally known Edna Wal lace Hopper will appear on the Cecil stage in the near future She draws large crowds everywhere and will no doubt break attendance records at the local playhouse She is now playing all the theaters on the Ra dioKeithOrpheum circuit The famous group of film horse men known as the Universal Ranch Riders appear in The Danger Rider Hoot Gibsons starring pic tue now showing at the Iowa thea ter The ranch riders are recruitec mostly from former cowboys altho a number of the men have been in the U S cavalry They weregath ered by Carl Laemmle president ol Universal Pictures Corporation to lend dash to western productions The picture world has been flooded with underworld stories most of which have carried enough thrills to make them worth while But now comes an underworld story with its accent on cometty and gives that great comedian Douglas MacLean a chance to introduce HOLD MEETING TO DISCUSS MERGER Favor Consolidation of Rural Telephone Lines at Swea City SWBA CITY April in favor of merging the 12 rural telephone companies connected with the local exchange developed at a meetingof 40 patrons and officers held this week in the Legion hall It was voted to have each rural line company select a committee to at tend a second meeting to be held Tuesday night at which time the subject will he discussed further It is thot that by the consolida tion of these 12 companies consti tuting 20lines a means can be ob tained to deal more effectively with the local situation Heretofore com plaints that have been voiced to the Iowa Union Telephone company have been met with the argument that the country lines were not In fit condition to give good service It is believed that with the merger It will be possible to put the rural in better shape so that the rural line companies will be able to put in a complaint and get some action The meeting was addressed by A B Russ of Buffalo Center who told how the farm lines in that peigh borhood had been operated under one company for the past 24 years The plan has been highly successful there The Iowa TJnion Telephone com pany 1s also planning on putting In some new work to Make the service better The company bought this ex change late last fall and have not had any chance yet to put in the needed work himself in a talking picture which not only carries action and thrills but is filled with good comedy of the kind that has made this star famous Palace will offer The Carnation Kid Dougs first talk ing picturefor four days starting Tuesday Manager Heffner states that Palace patrons are due for a thrill ingtalking picture filled with good hearty laughs Douglas Fairbanks has been booked by the Cecil in The Iron Mask This is his first MONS BELGIUM MONS Belgium April 1 H The oldest windmill in Europe has beeri discovered in the Bel gian province of Hennegau It is known as the Mauvlnage Mill and under this name has re ceived a classification by the Royal Society of Monuments The mill stands near the ham let of Silly and dates back to 1180 ranking with the famous Tournai Belfry It was built atop a hill overlooking a quarry 94 BELMOND April oldest resident Henry Nelson 94 died Friday at the home of daughter Mrs R T Rierson Mr Nelson had celebrated his fourth birthday March 19 Funeral services will be conducted in the
