that a Vie lorian interior may be correct In Every detail Old Bottles for Lamps The vogue for collecting old bot tles of all shapes has caused another prose o our lampmaking A Jolly fat bottle of clear colored glass is tilled with water a proper top to fit it is added and then it la crowned with a pleated shade tied with cord or ribbon Made in this fashion was a perfect beauty of a lamp The bottle was a bluo the color one sees on a fresh plum The pleated shade was of a paler blue with a darker band ot the same color On examination it was discovered that the shade wasmade ot draftsmans tracing cloth which has a fins glazed surface v This lamp when lighted was more than satisfying Uses Grass Candlestick An electric lamp that would fit in with a Colonial interior was a brass candlestick with a thumb bolder A glass chimney protected the electric bulb Other old types ot lighting that are being revived aro sconces and lan terns The sconces arc made of cop retleetors til pro per spirit of romance Polished steel is used for the stand ards of bridge lamps Parchment shades usually complete these the shade selected for its design with a view to the period of the room Prints are very good on parchment shades But nn 1B20 print should not go in a Victorian room nor one from Godeys Ladies Book In a Colonial room v Pottery bases with gay colorful de signs from Italy France and Czecho slovakia wear parchment shades too On the shades clever artists copy the uesigns oC the base with all their vigor and merry color Japanese papers are pleated for some shades Old papers with fine ornamentation are used the same way Gay shades are surely possible to everyone when so many interesting papers arc being manufactured Twin for Dresser Twin lamps fill a special need every now and then A long library table may bo appropriately lighted by Chinese vases wired for lamps Each ias its teakwood base and its Bilk shade designed to carry out the color ind feeling of the
