   Cedar Rapids Gazette (Newspaper) - September 12, 1974, Cedar Rapids, Iowa                                Boycott by Whites as Boston Busing Begins BOSTON (AP) A threat- ened white boycott appeared to have taken effect and. lit least one school was the scene of a while outburst Thursday as Bos- ton schools opened for the first time under a court-ordered de- segregation busing plans. A phalanx oE 20 policemen kept a crowd of about 200 whites back from predominantly while South Boston high as black pupils were bused to the school under court order. About CO blacks arrived on buses and a piece of wood was thrown at one of the vehicles. Whites booed and jcrcd. At one point, part of the crowd had to be pushed hack by police. Otherwise, integration began peacefully as most while pupils involved in the busing appeared to be honoring the boycott.
