Minnesota Beef Outlet Convicted of Bait-Switch ST. PAUL. Minn. (AP) Minnesota Ally. Gen. Warren Spannaus announced this week that Battle Beef Co. and its four operators have agreed to refund 20 percent of the money customers have paid the firm for bulk meat. Spannaus said the refunds in some 150 Minnesota resi- dents will total approximately Wrong Weights The attorney Keneral sued the Battle Lake. Minn., firm and its operators July 3 for fraud, deceptive pricing of meat and false advertising. He alleged that the firm "baited" cus- tomers with advertisements for meat at low prices and then "switched" the custom- ers to purchases of higher- priced meat. Spannaus also alleged that the firm inten- tionally weighed meat inac- curately. Spannaus said Battle Lake Beef and the operators have agreed to turn over the firm's property plus to Otter Tail County Sheriff Carlton Mertensen. The grand champion, a Angus-Simmen- tal crossbred, was shown by 15-year-old Peter Hunter Hunter also had the Shorthorn steer, Hereford heifer and Shorthorn heifer champions. The reserve grand champion steer was an 1 ,1 25-pound Charolais- Limousin showed by Doug Ol- son of Fairfax. Doug's steer is named Cheech" The champion Angus steer at the Linn county fair was shown by Morgan Karns (right) of Cedar Rapids. The steer weighed in at pounds. Jenny Olson of Fairfax had the champion Hereford steer weighing 1 ,035 pounds Jenny's steer was also the champion Hereford at Coggon Harvest Home.
