Many of these are disorders that cause the blood vessels of the body, including those in the head, to expand. The increased blood flow then creates pressure within the head that irritates the pain re- ceptors of the nervous system. Pain Most parts of the brain don't register pain. The pain from a headache may lie in the tissues and arteries which are outside the skull. Certain arteries am veins within the skull, partic larly in the outer membrane the brain, may signal pain.
