Mansfield forecasts serious Senate opposition to a twoyear extension of the draft in a debate likely to in volve the use of draftees in the Vietnam The Senate Armed Services Committee is expected to complete action this probably on a bill extending the draft and eliminating future defer ments for college Its version would permit current undergraduates to keep their deferments until their four years of college The House already has approved extending the draft for two years past its June 30 expiration Senate debate is due in about two Mansfield said the legislation has faced a comparatively easy path so far but This time I think it will encounter serious OPPOSED School Board Action Due on Staff Reduction Action on the reduction of 36 teachers from the Vigo County School Corporation staff is ex pected to be taken when mem bers of the board of trustees meet Monday The reduction was deferred at the April 12 meeting after Kenneth Cottom had an nounced the cut as part of con solidation and curriculum The board will hear a request for the authorization to adver tise for additional appropriations to the cumulative building fund for the new north elementary the junior high school at the
