Mrs John M Room two or the pioneer members oJ the church Mr Koons como to this county forty four years ago this month and is known to nearly every man in this city and county as an upright citizen an honorable man and a good neighbor For many years he has resided on his farm on top of the hill but ho and his good wife have grown weary of living alone on the old homestead and hav ing disposed of the old place will move next week to Springfield Mo whore they will reside with their daughter Mrs Mary Murden Mr Koons has been a member of the First Presbyterian church ever since he came here and for the past twenty five years has been an elder of the church 5 In view of the estimable old couples approaching departure from the city and the society of the church the mem bers of the church arranged a farewell reception for Mr and Mrs Koons which was largely by their friends and the good people of the First church in the lecture room of the church last evening A notable feature of the reception was the very elegant supper the ladies had prepared Many of the old songs were sung and the evening was given over to pleasant social inter course Mr and Mrs Koons passed through a hand shaking ordeal equal to a Presidents reception Heartfelt expressions of regret at their ap moachlng departure with sincere well wishes for their happiness in their new homo were heard on all sides The church in progress at the rink attracted another good crowd last night The display although as yet very incomplete is pretty and attract ive and when it is finished promises to form one of the most extensive and elegant displays ever made here at a similar exhibit The object of this fair is to add a substantial sum to the parsonage fund of the church The elegant new parsonage now being erected near the church on the West Side is drawing near completion and will make a very handsome residence for Father Kroeger whoso long residence in the city has endeared him not only to his parish oners but to the whole community He may be called the oldest settler among the clergy he having been in continuous service longer than any other resident clergyman He has been here for twentyseven years in
