To skip or not to skip has been the question in the minds of the students duVing the laist few days. Whether it was the duty of students to ''attend strictly to the thing in hand" or to look away from the arduous college duties and for a little season enjoy the county exposition. S.\Max-well, formerly of Amity College, College Springs^ Iowa, and Miss E. H. Glenn, who takes up Miss Calvin's work while the latter is resting. After chapel exercises were over those present indulged in lively conversation, while tlie Doctor tore oil" certificates to take to the trëasurer. The old students enjoyed the fun, but some of the new- ones were pretty much worked up about so manj'' examinations. All the professors were happ3^ The experiment of execution by means "of electricity has been made. Tiiere seems to be a difference of opinion as to whether it wa.s successful or not. The success of the execution depeikls on whether the executed suffered greatly from it of not. Could we call the victim of this experiment from the regions beyond arid inquire of him. we might be able to determine the result of the trial. Otherwise we are to a great extent in tiie dark. Admitting that this attempt at electrocution was not vvholly successful, shall we on this account condemn the method of disposing of capital criminals'? Perhaps not. But there certainly needs to be some improvement made on the machinery. Another such a scene as this experiment made, will tend to give the world at large the impression that we are not the civilized nation that we are said to be. . . We often see men wielding a great power over their fellowmen who have not great mental ability, who indeed are rather weak in this respect, and we wonder wherein their power lies. Moody moves
