summer reading program The Gail Borden Public Library will launch its annual summer reading program on Wednesday at the library 200 N Grove Ave Elgin This years theme is Read for the Fun of It Registration for the various reading programs will be on Wednesday while summer programming will begin June 12 The overriding purpose of the summer reading program is to encourage people to read said Dan Zack director of the Gail Borden Public Library District It is not only for kids anymore We have programming and events for all ages Preschool children may join the ReadtoMe game in the Chil drens Center Participants keep track of titles read to them by adult caregivers and visit the library three times Children ages 3 and older also report on one of the books they especially enjoyed Independent readers may join Read for the Fun of It in the youth services room Children log the number of minutes they read make three visits to the library and describe through words or pictures one of the books they have read Children who complete either GAIL BORDEN ReadtoMe or Read for the Fun of It will receive a free paperback book and a ticket to the final event Farmer Bordens Country Fair This fun fair for preschoolers and grade school kids will be held from 2 to 7 pm Aug 3 Teens in seventh grade or older are invited to join the Young Adults Reading Club They record time spent reading and upon completion receive a free paper back book Teens may sign up in the youth services room Adults are encouraged to take part in the summer reading pro gram as well Interested adults can pick up a reading log at the adult services reference desk anytime throughout the program Participants will track their reading by writing down the titles and authors of books they have read To finish the program eight books need to be read over the course of the program Drawings will be held to award books to readers Summer programming officially gets started at 6 pm June 12 on the librarys south lawn with the first of four family picnics The library will provide a bever age dessert and entertainment People attending need to bring a picnic supper In case of inclement weather the picnic will be held inside Entertainment scheduled for June 12 is Fun Fun Fun with the Bucket Boys The Bucket Boys is a percussive group com bining music laughter interac tion and positive fife skills Other scheduled picnics at the library are Mondays July 10 and Aug 14 A picnic also has been scheduled for June 27 at Panton Mill Park in South Elgin In case of inclement weather the picnic will be held at the South Elgin Village Hall 10 N Water St All picnics begin at 6 pjn and entertainment starts at 7pm The Gail Borden Public Library District serves more than 110000 residents in Elgin and parts of South Elgin
