MTV Derrick Kosinski left a graduate of Maine East High School in Park Ridge is among the six cast members of the current season of MTVs Road Rules reality show which shows the cast trekking through South America Suburban student puts self in reality spotlight BY ERIN HOLMES Daily Herald Staff Writer The name Derrick Kosinski might not ring a bell for you But much of America a nation thats watched him choke down cow parts on cable TV already is on a firstname basis with the 2001 Maine East High graduate and twosport Oakton Community College athlete Kosinski 20 was one of six teens and 20somethings chosen by MTV from among 40000 hopefuls to leave reality and last names behind to star on reality television trekking the roads of South America in an RV for two months as the networks newest cast of the wild and wacky Road Rules show The series is airing now Kosinski is done filming and is watching from home he lives with his family in an unin corporated area near Des Plaines shushing others as he views the episodes and some times cringing at his time on screen But I have not regretted it for one second he said of his stint on the show and the fame that comes with it I love it The shows Web site bills KosinsM as confident almost to the point of in Inter net chat rooms hes labeled a jerk and thats on the tame side But he shrugs it all off saying theres no way producers can boil down hours of footage into 22minute episodes and paint a full picture of who he really is I find it funny These people dont know me Kosinski said of the fans People who know me know who I am They know I have a good heart they know Im a good person they know that I want to help people Road Rules follows the adventures of six guys and girls who are plopped down sans money or credit cards in new locations every episode and are required to complete a mission Failing to do so could see them lose a teammate or a shot at a prize Coincidentally a Maine South High graduate named Patrick is on the show with Kosinski MTV does not release last names of participants with out their approval One challenge featured the cast rappelling a 210foot water fall another had them eating a cow from the thick tail to vari ous oozing innards Kosinski admits that last stunt was straightup nasty but says the experience on the whole treated him to amazing feats hed never otherwise try You know who does that Kosinski said adding We do these missions that other people only dream about doing His time on camera has given Oakton time in the spotlight Kosinski wore attire bearing the colleges name while filming Some of the garb was donated by Oakton officials who have had fun seeing it on TV but say its not exactly bringing the col lege bigtime publicity He doesnt have wwwoaktonedu on his shirt pointed out Oakton Athletic Director Dave Cole I mean hes got the apparel on the show but we really look to this as more of a fun thing and were certainly glad hes there He and others who knew him before the rest of America did say the 5foot6 Kosinskis per sonality tenacious fun and ready for a challenge athletic or otherwise works perfectly with the reality shows premise Continued from fbge 1 Charles and Ray learned how to play instruments They created a small band in their back yard until a neighbor called the police because of the noise Their musical
