A native of Italy, and a resident of Burlingame for 40 years, Fena was a gardener at San Mateo High school before Burlingame High school was established.. Upon com- pletion of the second high school in the district, he became its first employe in 1928. He stead- ily at the -school until his retire- ment 24 years later. The husband of the late Cosima Fena, he is survived by three sons, Peter, a Hillsborough police officer and a resident of San Mateo; Jo- seph, a Burlingame city fireman, and Thomas, a Bethlehem Steel company employe and a Burlin- game resident. He leaves a daugh ter, Mrs. Cecile Sutherland ol Palo Alto; a brother, Peter ol Cleveland, Ohio, and five grand- children, John, Joseph, Mary Ann and Frank Fena of Burlingarae and William C. He lost his sight and hearing when he was 13, yet became an accom- plished chess player. At the time of his death he was carrying on 13 games by mail. He missed out on the world chess championship for the blind by only two victories dur- ing his prime. He was a salesman for products made by the Califor- nia Industries of the Blind in Oak- land. McLean, a native of Byran, Ohio, came to Burlingame 32 years ago, and entered the contracting busi ness. He was active until six years ago when he and his wife moved into an oceanside cottage at Mira mar, north of Half Moon Bay. He was a member of Bryan lodge, No. 215, F. A.
