Post Man (Newspaper) - April 5, 1801, London, Middlesex And tlie Hiftorical Account, &c. From ttflttta?. *Pril 5. tQ teuMtity April 8, 1701. March 25. TH E Affair of the Cardinal of Bouillon is not adjured, as it was at firft reported, and the French give out. that the moft Chriftian King cannot much regard the recommendation of the Pope, as long as he has received no fatisfa&ion for the affront put upon his Ambaflador in the Affair of Prince Vahini, and that his Holinefs continues to refufe the Inveftit, ure of Maples and Sicily to the new King of Spain. The French have on this occafion ufed feveral threatning expreffions, but the Pope has coldly anfwered, that God who had made him Pope, will maintain and affift him. An Exprefs is fent to Cardinal de Bouillon, with orders to return hither. "T6e Spmiijb Ambaflador has fignified to Don Livio Odefchalchi, that ke muft take down the Imperial Arms which are let up above the Gates of his Palace, and that as be is a fubjeS of the King ofS/w,and one of rheGrandees of charKingdom, his Catholick Majcfty expefts to be obeyed. The Pope continues very uneafy, Jsecaufe there isno hopes of preventing a War in Italy, the French having ab-folutely rejedted t.he Proposals of the Emperor about the fequeftration of Maples, Sicily and Mian. His Holinefs expreffes his uneafinefs on all occafions, and 'tis faid that he told fome days ago an Abbot who de/Ired of him a Penfian of 500 Scudi, that he would give him one of a thoufand, if he could find means for him to abdicate the TripleCrown.and obtain leave to live a private life* Th* Duke of Berwick, natural Sou to the late King James, is. fct out for Park, with a. world of Relicts for his Father,.arid.a remittance of 12000 Scudi, for the ufe of'theEsglijh,, Scotch and Ir/jh Papilrs who are in France. - 'Tis confirmed from Na~ pies, that the Emperor has a ftrong party in that King-dom,and that feveral Pafquinades are difperfed in tbac City, againft the new King of Spain, -and the French; King, and that tHey found in all'^ublick places, and' even upon the doors of the Palace, the following; Words, Non habimut Regcmniji C^famn, we have no o.-ther King but Cafar. ', Turin, March 29. The Duke ofSw/ has received advice from Milan, that a Body of 6000 French Men were fent to poflefs themfelvesof BerfeJ, a- Fbrtreis on the Po, belonging to the Duke of Modena^bat that they were forced to return to their quarters with the loft of 4 or $oo men, whereupoip the Venetians have reinforced the Garrifon of thai' place with fome Troops of their own. The fame Exprefs brings adr-ice, that the Garrifon of Mantua has nude a fhew aj, if they would defend that place, and the French were not yet in p.oiTeffion thereof when the Letters came a" way, tho it is not doubted but they are in tbatd'tv by this time. Our Duke receives frequent Expreffes from France, and notwithftanding he has fignified his Intention of ftanding Neuter in this quarrel, we bear that the French will not cbnfent thereunto, and that his Royal Highnefs cannot avoid declaring againft the Emperor. The bam'fhing of Prince Rafiii from Milan, for fpeaking in behalf of th e Emperor; his not deterred others from doing the like, and notwithftanding feveral Burghers have been likewife bani(hed, the common people declare for his Imperial Majefty, and they hear frequent acclamations in the Streets, Long live the Emperor. Our Letters from thence tell us, that fome days ago 5 Gentlemen came out of a Tavern Sword in hand, threatening tokiH every body that would not 1'ay with them Long live the Emperor. The Prince of Vaudimont is gone towards Cremona, to mark out an Incampment for the French and Spanifh Troops, . which are fhortly to take the Fi^d, upon advice that the Impenalifts grow numrou$ on the Frontiers, Some Letters talk of an Encounter between a Patty of theReghnent of Nigrslli, and a Detachment of the French, but this is too uncertain to be relied upon. The French have refblved to fortify feveral places on the Frontiers of the Milanese, tlie better to defend that Ccuntr y againft the Germans. Venice, April 1.
