Harrifon, of Sis Ma-jejiy's Ship the Venus, to Mr.Clevla-id, dated at Plymouth, March 19,- 1762. Pleafe to acquaint my Lords Commiffioners of the Admiralty, that I arrived in Plymouth Sound this Day, with His Majefty's Ship under my Command, having, on the 6th Inftant, in the Latitude of 4Z0 zo' Oporto E. by S. Diftance 92 Leagues, at Day-light, fallen in withan Englifh Ship, who had a Signal of Diftrefs out, (Name unknown) without a living Creature on Board. She was laden with Provifions; Bales, &c. and believe was under Convoy of the Alarm, one of whole Convoy Ifpoke with" a few Days before ; but blowing very hard, could not fend on Board. She had, when my Boat came on Board her, nine Foot Water in her Hold; but, on ordering her Pumps to be tried, I found we gained on her fall, and ty Noon fhe was quite char. I fent a^Petty Officer, and a proper Number of Men, on Board her, and a few Days after ftrift Search,-found her Leak, and ftopt it. At One 'the feme Day, I-dif covered a Sail bearing down, who I.foon found to be an Enemy, and, after four Hours Chace, i .came up wish her, when fhe ftruck : Proved to be. the Atnabile Marea from Bourdeaux,: boutjd. to St. Do mingo, who failed from thence the 28th of February, in Company* with ftven oher Sh:ps, all bound to the W^ft Indies. In the Evening of the fame-Day, I discovered another EngH/h Ship with a-Signal of Diftrefs hcifted, and was much furprized to find,ron my coming to her Affiftance, fhe alfo was abandoned, and had beon, I believe, fome\Time. She had eight Foot Water in her Hold, which I foon cleared, and found lhe made very little after She was laden with the fame Cargo as the other, and believe .bound to Jamaica; has been a fine Ship, of 30 Gons. 'I wifh there may not be fome Trick in : thc.-intended Lofs of thefe Ships, or at leaft-the latter, as fhe-did not feem well found for a Weft India Voyage. On the 17th, being in Company with the thriee Ships, I was chaced ini the 'Afternoon' by a;Bng>..wiio f:foon found to be a Privatier, as flie lay to look at me, about four Miles Diftance, fome Time ; and not [ Price Three Pence. ] 55 liking my' Appearance, made Sail from me; "to whom I gave Chace j. when, after a Chace .of 2$ Hours, in which I run 60 Leagues, her Maintop-mail gomg'over the Side, I came upwjth'her, fhe proved to be" the Amabile Jofepha, a Spanifh Privatier belonging 'to St. Sebaftian, of 1*4 Guns and 103 Men, being the Firft Privatier that has been out of Spain: She failed from the Groyne the 12th Inftant. 1 loft Sight of the Three Ships in the Chace of thelafiV who alfb loft me in a Fog off the Eddyftons.
