Crown Tavern behind the Royal-Exchange^ Thurfday, Oft. 3, 1745. T a Meeting of feveral Merchants and other Inhabitants of this City, it was agreed to meet again on Wednesday next, at Six of the Clock in the Evening precifely, to receive the Subfcriptions of all Perfons, who are willing to join in the following Plan of a Military Affociatton againft the preient Rebellion in favour of Popery and Arbitrary Power. A Plan for a Military Aflbciation in the City of London, for the Defence of his, Maiefty King George, cur Lawful Sovereign, the Prefervation of the Proteftant Religion, the Liberty and Property of the Nation in General, and of this City in Particular. '0 t- TNDER the prefent Emergency, when our Religion and Civil Liberties, are not only invaded by an open Rebellion 2 1/ in Favour of a Popifh Pretender to the Crown of thefe Realms, but our ambitious Enemies abroad, elated by Succefs, are threatning their Concurrence to our Ruin ; it is neceffary for every one to exert his utmoft to avert the impending Dangers ; and Men of Property and fuperior Fortune ought not only to contribute to the Publick Safety by their Puries, but alfo to animate their Inferiors, who {hall be employed in Defence of our King and Country, by ex-pofing their own Perfons likewife, for the Prefervation of all that is dear and valuable. It is therefore propofed, and Cartouch-Box.; and that the Standards, Colours, That proper Perfons be appointed in the feveral    Drums and Trumpets, requifite for each Body of Men, be z 0 0 ft 0 p j.   x f -r~-    --------- 4 x Diitric~fc of the City of London, to enroll the Names of g|] Houfe-keepers and others, who (hall pleafe to enlift, as Horfe or Foot Soldiers, in an Aflbciation for this Purpofe. 2. That thofe who thus enlift, fhall be formed into Troops of Horfe, and Companies of Foot, who (hall recommend to his Majefty for fuitable Commiffions the Perfons they fhall chufe for their Captain, Lieutenant and En-ftp. 3. That as foon as thefe Bodies of Horfe and Foot are furniihed with Officers by his Majefty's Commiff.on, they be formed into Battalions and Squadrons, confiding of fuch as live near each other. Each Battalion to contain not lefs than 600 Men, and each Squadron not iefs than 15 o. 4. That each Perfon inlifting, if he pleafe, may have one or more Servants to attend him : But ail fuch Servants mufl be armed and accoutred fit for Service, and formed into diflinft Corps ; the Servants of Horfemen into Squa- 1^ drons, the others into Battalions, and both commanded by Z( Officers chofen by, and from among their Matters. 0 5. rfhat Application be made to his Majefty to appoint a General Officer of Dignity and Military Experience to be the Commander in Chief of this Aflociated Army of l.on�   oir moft gracious Sovereign King GEORGE, to fubvert aid deitroy our prefent moft happy Conftitution in Church and State, and to introduce and eftab'ifh Popery and Arbitrary Power. We therefore the Lord-Mayor, Aldermen, Common-Council-men, Citizens, Merchants, Traders and other Inhabitants of the ancient and loyal City of London, whofe ' Names are hereunto fubfcribed, being filled with a juft De-telkrJDn and Abhorrence of this daring and execrable Attempt, and hoping to encourage and confirm others, by Q�r Example, in the vvarmeft and moft hearty Oppofition tliCKto, do hereby faithfully engage and promife, that we will to the utmoft of our Power, ftand by and fupport each other in Defence of our prefent happy Conftitution, of his moil facred Majefty King GEORGE, our only Lawful ^ Rightful Sovereign, and of the Proteftant Succeflion as Law eftablifhed in his Royal Family, againft the faid Pretender and all his Adherents and Abettors.   Dated at Guildhall, London, the 4 th of Oftober, 1745. Km, The above Aflbciation is in the Mayor's Court at Guildhall, and all Perfons difpofed to fign the fame are de-"ed to call there for that Purpofe, between the Hours of ^ce in the Morning and Five in the Afternoon. Northampton, 03. 4, 1745. THE Gentlemen, who met at the George-Inn, at Northampton, on Wednefday the 25th of September, having entered into an Engagement to ufe their utmoft MUfiavours towards raifing a Regiment or Body of Men in and about the Town of Northampton, for the Defence of His Majefty's Perfon and Government in this dangerous Con-junftuie ; this Day was appointed for a General County Meeting, in order to receive his Majefty's Anfwer to the (aid Offer, and to enter into fuchMeafures as might be moft ' cond jcive to the public\ Safety : In Confequence of which Appointment, there was this Day a very numerous Appearance of Nobility, Gentry, Clergy, and Others, who met in the Seffions-Houfe, and unanimoufly agreed to an Addrefs to his Majefty, and an Aflbciation recommended to them by the Right Honourable the Earl of Halifax, by Order of his Grace the Duke of Montagu, Lord Lieutenant of the Coanty   both which will be publifhed as foon as poffible after they have been prefented to his Majefty. At the fame Time the following Propofals from the Lord Lieutenant were laid before the faid General Meeting, and had Univerfal Approbation. PROPOSED, I. That the Meafures already taken towards Raifing a Regiment or Body of Men in and about the Town of Northampton, as well as thofe for Raifing Regiments or Bodies of Men near Kettering and other Places adjacent to his Grace the Duke of Montagu's Seat at Boughton, be thrown into the General Plan now to be laid for the Exertion of the whole Strength of the County. II. That whatever Forces can be raifed throughout the whole County, be put upon the fame Footing as thofe particular Bodies purpofed to be raifed by his Grace the Duke of Momagu were defign'd to be, that is to fay, that as foon as they (hall be form'd irtto Troops or Companies, and enter upon Service they fhall receive the fame Pay which the reft of his Majefty's forces receive ; and that the United Forces of the County be under the Command of the Lord Lieutenant of the County as General of the fame. III. That the Numbers of Men to be raifed in different Parts of the County be formed into Regiment?, 1 roops and'Companies, as foon aspoffiblf* under fuch Officers as the Lieutenant (hall think proper to recommend to His Majeily. IV.
