Affairs Get Attention BY JOHN HENNESSEY TYRONE Police mailers and appointments to borough boards and authorities occupied a brief session Borough Council last evening Council also authorized Tyrone Mayor John Molnar lo ex ecule any necessary documents to file for participation in the Small Cities Program Community Development Block Grant under federal of Housing and Urban Develop ment v Two public hearings to gain on how such a granl may besl be used for the borough will be held Thursday one at 2pm and the other at 7 p m in the borough building APPLIED LAST YEAR The borough last year applied for funds under the program but its application was rejected since other communities in the slate were chosen lo receive the available funds i Lasl years by the borough was generally aimed al funds for the a senior citizens center and improved curbing and paving in the area APPOINTMENTS The following appointments last evening bv Council Sheldon Sellers 1403 Blair ave lo borough Zoning Hearing Board Robert Cassidy 510 W 15th st appointed to the Tyrone Borough Sewer Authority replacing George Eschbach who resigned Dr Richard Stevef 1213 Logan ave appointed to the borough Board of Health R Michael McClam 112 W st appointed lo the borough Zoning and Planning Commission Di Norman Miller 414 W Fifth st reappointed to the Nor thern Blair County Regional Sewer Authority One vacancy remains on the borough Zoning and Planning Commission Council tabled the its meeting so a person may be found to fill the position POLICE COMMUNICATIONS In matters Council learned that the state Com mission on Crime and Delinquency ib approving on a tem basis the transfer of communications equipment from Bellwood Borough The equipment was used by the Police Depart ment in conjunction with the Tyrone Communications net work Bellwood late last year decided to drop the service of Tyrone make use of Blair Base with the In a letter addressed to Mayor Molnar slate Commis sion of Crime indicated that provision for any municipality to withdraw police commission net work before 1981 according to Agree ment v Bellwood Borough Council chose lo use the services of Blair Base since it is less expensive than subscribing the Tyrone Communications network TRANSFER EQUIPMENT Borough bought new equipment for use in connec tion with Blair Base The equipment used in with the Tyrone network will be moved from Bellwood to Tyrone where there is a need for the mobile and portable radio units it was reported The transfer of the equipment will become permanent Feb 1 if the Bellwood Police later this year coun said DEPARTMENT STUDY Council authorized the Police Committee to send a letter to the state of asking that an evaluation of the borough police be conducted The study of the department would be funded by state tax dollars with no cost incurred on the borough ADAMS AVENUE PARKING Council approved the placing of No Parking signs on west side of Adams ave between st and the the parking situation POLICE SPENDING Third Ward Councilor James Beckwith questioned certain made by Police Department He said some of the expenses amounted to and noted lhal anything above that price
