public health By Glenn Arbery Senior Editor Food poisoning Even decades after the fact anyone whos ever had it can describe the exact misery raging fever nausea cramps diarrhea and the meal that for lunch They shared the same meal neither had eaten anything else that day and when they both got violently ill the conclusion was that they had gotten food poisoning at the restaurant One of the women called the restaurant to complain and the personnel treated her cool ly not to say rudely She was incensed enough after 2 days of wrenching illness to want justice She contacted the media wanting to expose the perpetrators But in cases like this the media have to tread very carefully because spread ing a rumor can lead to restau rant closings and libel lawsuits On the other hand if a patron got sick as a direct result of eating there then something must be done about it But consumers should be forewarned that food poison ing is an extremely difficult thing to prove Why Because by
