of the execution of Frank Major alias Joseph Kennedy alias Daniel J Kohoe for Tuesday April 1C was to the condemned mail shortly after 1 p in today There were present the Rev James J Dunn Majors spiritual advisor two representatives of the press and two citizens Sheriff D N Scott prefaced his reading of the war rant with the remark addressed to Major I have an unpleasant duty to perform Major stood in an easy position during the reading listening attentively without changing a muscle of his face During the reading the light was poor and noticing this Major reached ovor to the lamp on the small table at tho head of his couch mvl turned up the wick A moment later he noticed it was smoking and turned it down At its conclusion the clergyman as a special favor of Scott that Major be granted the pri vacy of his ceil from this time on un til tbe execution that curious spectat ors be kept away and no person ad mitted save by request of the prisoner Major was asked if this was his counsel for the prosecution In the Frank Major murder case was served notice yesterday morning that Majors counsel H J Humes would make ap plication to the board of pardons sit ting at Harrisburg March 20 for a commutation of the sentence Mr Benedict with the other attorneys will appear before the board on that date to argue against the motion that will be made It is thought that Ma jors constitutional convention that the declaration of congress as con in the Plait amendment to the army appropriation is merely a basis for further negotiations as to the relations between tho United
