weeklies that passed away long ago lie wrote for the Gazette Commercial and At luf and for the and Great West and a temperance papar edited by General Jury In connection with a printer named he started a Sunday called the Leader but it was shortlived when the outside of tho third number was printed His first regular engagement upon a daily newspaper was as news editor of the Allan whose proprietor at the time was Air John D Caldwell This lasted until Henry came from Columbus to edit the after which it speedily be came an evening edition of the Gazette He retired just as Reed came Covington and Newport for a few weeks Mr Potter was in very delicate and early in the summer at the urgency of his physicians left home for a long stay in thn Kastern States Mr Lee very kind to Halstead and accepted his editorials on minor topics with words that wore pleasant Lee was thoroughly 1 gentleman and his praise was the butter part of the pay for long nights of hard work for Halstead Lee fell ill and sent for and he undertook to write an editorial article f i r each days issue of the Commercial and also to keep up ft which Mr Loo had adopted of condensing the news His experience on the Allan and Columbian had fitted him for this He entered the Commercial office in March 1853 nnd this promotion took place in the following July Mr Lees illness proved fatal Mr Potter
