the first degree was today filed against Joe Hopkins the colored government meat inspector of the Worrell packing plant by the chief of police He Is accused of the fiendish murder of Miss Clara Rosen Friday night Ottumwa Iowa Feb police Sunday examined ten suspects In an effort to solve the murder of Miss Clara Rosen whose body was found in a vacant lot near her home Satur day morning One negro Joseph Hop kins who is employed as a govern ment meat inspector at pack Ing house Is in having failed to explain his whereabouts at the time of the murder Hopkins testified that he left the packing house late in the afternoon and came uptown where he visited three business houses and then took a street car for his home which is some distance from the scene of the murder Will Search Negros Home He stated that he did not leave the house on Friday night after arriving home some time before 6 oclock The fact however that he did not work Saturday Is believed by the police to indicate that he
