Consent searches conducted during traffic stops could become a thing of the past if biparti san legislation passes this session State Rep Harold Dutton D and State Rep Suzanna Hupp House 2418 while State Sen Juan Hinojosa filed Senate 1195 which would add a provision to Article of the Code of Criminal Procedure prohibiting peace officers conducting a traffic stop from seeking verbal consent to search a vehicle unless there is probable cause or another legal basis for the search Both pieces of legislation were filed Wednesday Every citizen has the tional right to liberty without fear of harassment As an attorney I know that it is within my rights to decline a search of my vehicle if there is no probable cause for the Hinojosa said Support for the bills stems from a recent study conducted by the Texas Criminal Justice Coalition which indicated a disproportionate number of black and Hispanic motorists were subjected to searches during a traffic stop Will Harrell director of manager to the M Seguin and I look forward to promoting city events and having a positive impact Undo Duncan City of Seguin Public Information Officer position of pub lic information officer Duncan served as interim public informa tion officer since the resignation of Raphael Aviles last year Im really excited to pro vide accurate and timely infor mation to the cit of Seguin and I look for ward to ing city events and having a positive impact even beyond the city Duncan said The public information officer is responsi ble for information the city wishes to distribute to the public and promotes city events The officer also handles some internal tions and creates the city page thats distributed to utility customers with their Duncan a native of Seguin joked that shes lived in the city since November of 1968 when she was Baby of the Month at Guadalupe Valley Hospital and said her favorite thing about Seguin is its small town Its exciting to live in a place that still offers a bit of the small town Duncan said You can walk down the street or go into a restaurant and people will call you by name Its a really friendly place and we have a car ing Duncan said she hopes to serve Seguin well especially during times of Ive lived through the heartache weve seen in the past with the Duncan said Ive shoveled the mud been evacuated from my office and had friends whose homes were flooded throughout the state of Texas will be on their guard this Spring Break looking for speeders seat belt viola tors and drunk drivers The Seguin Police Department will be participating in the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program STEP through March 21 The program is designed to remind drivers to wear their seat belts when operating a motor cle The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission will be working with local law enforcement agencies throughout Texas this week to keep alcohol out of the hands of teenaged Spring Breakers Young people who choose to illegally consume alcohol during their spring break could face heavy fines if found to be intoxicated or in possession of alcohol agents will be conducting minor sting operations and random inspections with the hope of alcohol consumption and eating all the right foods may be the first step to a long and healthy life March is National Nutrition Month a pro gram sponsored by the American Dietetic Association designed to promote healthy eating habits and increased physical activity Guadalupe County Extension Agent Charla Bading was in commissioners court Tuesday and talked a little about National Nutrition Month Bading passed out nutrition quizzes to the court along with a large orange as a healthy snack The quiz was part of a brief presentation Bading has made at the Texas Workforce Center and at elementary schools throughout
