at the Silver Center as about 100 area veterans and supporters gathered to witness the rebirth of Seguins Community Based Outpatient Clinic A special program moderated by Don Larsen welcomed those who had done so much to serve the veterans of the past present and future Larsen recounted the events that led to the creation in February 2002 by the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court of the com that worked with the Department of Veteran Affairs and CR Associates to bring a back to Seguin The great people of the city of Seguin stepped forward when there was a need and poured out their financial Commander Doug Herrle Appeals court County must reverse decision CHANGE IN PLAN Subdivision plat decision reluctantly reversed by commissioners By BRYAN KIRK SEGUIN Fourth Court of Appeals deci sion ordering the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court to reverse its 2003 deci sion on a subdivision plat was reluctantly carried out by the commissioners court Tuesday The court voted 30 to comply with the order to reverse its decision on the Muehl Road Estates Subdivision with Commissioner Roger Baenziger absent and Commissioner Cesareo Guadarrama excusing himself during the court discussion The decision rendered by the Fourth Court of Appeals reverses a Nov 20 2003 decision by second Judicial District Judge Gus Strauss and the Oct 1 2003 decision by the commis court The court voted 50 in 2003 to deny the plat because some of the lots did not have an ade quate amount of road frontage onto Muehl Road and the number of driveways feeding onto Muehl Road was deemed a health and safety hazard Appeals Court Justice Sandra Bryan Marion concluded in her opinion that Guadalupe County did not have the inherent authority to reject a plat application in the interest of public health and librarian Charles Sanford said the AR program where students take tests on the books they read to get points to use for prizes is one of the motivators he uses to get kids to read Reading is so Reason to Succeed Public Sanford said Like all educa tion it opens doors for the stu dents They just cant get along with out Sanford said recognizing the needs of each child is the key to mak ing students into readers While some children read for the AR points others need other reasons to read Its a con stant challenge to keep students read ing because the more they read the better they read Sanford condition after the car they were riding in was hit headon by a Chevrolet Suburban The accident occurred shortly after 7 at the intersection of State Highway 123 North and Cordova Road Investigators with the Seguin Police Department said the driver of the Suburban was traveling north on 123 Investigators said a vehicle that was not involved in the collision was also traveling north and slowed to turn east on Laubach Road A red Ford Probe was traveling south on 123 toward Seguin when investigators said the Suburban went around the cle and hit the Probe headon Both vehicles came to rest at the inter section of Cordova Road and 123 State may put cap on candidate donations By BRAND GRISSOM Associated Press AUSTIN donors are usurping the power of the people of Texas to control their government contributions that are coming into state said Rep Texas Legislature Council agrees to advertise sale of Crossroads property By BRYAN KIRK SEGUIN The location for considered a prime relocation site for the Seguin Police Department could be going to the highest bidder before the end of March Seguin City Council voted Tuesday to begin advertising for bids on the Crossroads property March 6 Seguin City Manager Jack Hamlett told City Council hed been contacted by Matrix Composites about its interest in purchasing the property Hamlett said hed been in dis with attorneys who advised him the city would have to advertise for new bids on Crossroads Pat Linder an attorney for Davidson and Troilo said Hamlett asked the firm to look at some of the options available to the city We provided a letter to Mr Hamlett regarding those Linder said Aside from the bids the only remaining option is for the utility fund to purchase the Crossroads property from the general fund which would require the taxes to be paid from the general fund Hamlett Because notes were used to purchase the Crossroads property Hamlett said hes also spoken with Jeff Kuhn the city bond attorney about options If the general fund continues to own the property then we do have to go back out and advertise for bids in order to potentially sell the facil Hamlett said Hamlett recommended the city consider going for bids but with cer tain conditions attached Those conditions include a mini Mike Villarreal DSan Antonio who co authored the with Rep Mark DAustin The proposed legislation would allow individuals to donate no more than a total of in a election cycle to political action committees candidates for state office and political parties Currently there is no limit on the amount a person can donate to Texas political causes Until we ratchet down the acceptable and legal influence of money in the sys tem well never have a type of system in Texas that tells every voter in Texas that their vote counts as much as
