revisit homicide Grimm REWARD being offered for Information leading to conviction By BRYAN KIRK SEGUIN Investigators with the Seguin Police Department and the Texas Rangers are revisiting a homicide case that began more than 15 years ago The body of Leonard Carl Grimm 45 was discovered the morning of Aug in the backseat of his car He had been stabbed nine times We are revisiting the case in the death of Mr said Seguin Police Lt Mike Watts This will be a joint investigation between the Seguin Police Department and the Department of Public Safety Unsolved Case Investigative Team Grimm who lived in an apartment in the 1100 block of Sycamore Street at the time of his death was last seen alive by Seguin Police Officer Jimmy Harless who saw Grimm stopped on the side of the road with a flat tire According to initial media reports Harless radioed police dispatch at for a license plate check and then spoke with Grimm who reportedly told Harless he was waiting for friends to come and help him fix the flat tire His body was discovered several hours later by a passerby Several hours after Grimms body was found a man walking along Interstate 10 West near the Cibolo Creek bridge discovered Grimms wallet shirt and belt Police interviewed people of interest in 1989 but no arrest was ever made Since the discovery of Grimms body 15 years ago investigators have remained mum on many of the facts sur rounding the case HOMICIDE Page 7 A HARD WORK REWARDED Bidders wowed by strong entries at this years Youth Show By ASHLEY MATTHEWS SEGUIN The 2005 Guadalupe County Youth Livestock and Homemaker Show Auction showed off the accomplishments of Guadalupe Countys talented students whose livestock baked goods handicrafts and industrial arts wowed bidders and spectators alike The auction hall buzzed with activity as Youth Show supporters packed the bleachers to rally the students and bidders carefully studied the auction block conscientiously plotting every twitch of the hand Marion Kayla Luensmann showed the grand champion steer which brought in the auction from the Seguin Cattle Company We support the Youth said Benno Luensmann president of Seguin Cattle Company We bought the best steer because we think hes a Benno said he admired the composition of the steer Hes such a Benno said It has good loins good rounds and a clean body Hell produce high priced cuts of Kayla a senior at Marion High School finished 10 years of Youth Show participation on a good note as she plans to head to Texas University in the fall where she hopes to study agriculture business and marketing It feels Kayla said I was hoping I could end fay Youth Show well The competition was tough because this county was great steers and I never done all this without the support of my Navarro FFA member Justin Newton showed the grand champion swine which was bought for by Pinacle Contracting and McCreary Veselka Bragg Allen I never thought Id Newton said It felt like it was a one in a million chance I still dont know what to As the students entered the auction block with their prizewinning items auctioneer Jack Dillard of Waskom Texas reminded bidders that they werent just bidding on livestock or crafts they were bidding on the future This is the time to recognize the individual who has the Dillard said encouraging bidders to throw up their hands Just more dollars You pay that may be expanded to meet the needs of res development in the area combats algae in lake JIM By JANET GRAFE GUADALUPE COUNTY Phosphorus helps plants grow which is a good thing for a lawn but not good when it causes an overgrowth of algae in area lakes Members of the Preserve Lake Dunlap Association are commending the GuadalupeBlanco River Authority for its plans to reduce phosphorus levels in treated water when the Lake Dunlap facility is expanded The phosphorus in treated wastewater pouring into Lake Dunlap sometimes causes a smelly buildup of vegetation in the lake especially in the sum mer when temperatures are high and water flow reduced said Danny Laroe board member Unfortunately efforts may not help water condi tions at Lake Dunlap The New Braunfels Utility NBU wastewater treatment plant is the major source of phos from effluent in the lake while the treated water from the facility is usually piped to the Texas Independent Energy plant in Marion to use for cool ing water When the energy plant is not running the wastewater may be discharged into the lake so decided to treat the water to the higher standard said Debbie Magin director of water quality services Page
