News Editor Guadalupe County commission ers are to make their decision Mon day on the offer of NBC Bank Seguin to sell the county its Lending Center at 307 W Court Mike Pritchard and Frank Jones officers of NBC Bank will make a presentation formally presenting the banks offer during the meeting set for 10 Monday in the commis courtroom of the courthouse County Judge Jim was contacted several weeks ago by bank officials who said they planned to consolidate bank operations in the main building at 210 W Court and offered the Lending Center as a pos sible alternative to the county con a new tax and elections office Sagebiel during the commission ers Jan 22 meeting was authorized to proceed with further discussions on the proposal and commissioners also decided to have the offer reviewed by the citi zens advisory committee which last year construction of the new building on the county owned tract west of the old jail and bounded by Milam Center and Nolle streets court and the advisory committee met jointly Thursday night to tour the Lending Center and discuss the offer and members of the committee endorsed the proposal During Thursday nights meeting Sagebiel compared the two alterna tives describing the Lending Center as containing approximately square feet of office space on a tract with more than 90 parking spaces and the proposed new tax and elections office build ing as containing square feet and about 55 parking spaces Sagebiel said either project buy ing the Lending Center or construct ing the new building would cost approximately Theyre within of each he said of the cost comparison Although a related item on Mon days agenda calls for commission ers to terminate the new building Sagebiel said Friday that the project more likely will be put on hold rather than completely terminated Precinct 3 Commissioner Jim Brannon citing the growing need for additional courthouse office space recommended that the county do both buy the Lending Center and proceed with construction of the new building to house the tax office and the elections administration office While the advisory committee members did not endorse proceed ing simultaneously with both pro they suggested the new build ing be put on hold for a year or two rather than shelved permanently In other items on Mondays agen da commissioners will an increase in the jail boarding rate to per inmate per day for entities boarding prisoners at the county jail which include the Marshals Service Immigra tion and Naturalization Service Dis of Columbia Department of Corrections and nearby counties When a new jail boarding con tract with INS was approved last month commissioners agreed the rate needed to be increased from per day and in compliance with terms of the contract INS was noti fied of the countys intent increase the rate annual reports from Tax Betty Boyd and from the Juvenile Probation Department which will be repre sented by Chief Juvenile Probation Officer Maribeth Powers a contract for Knibbe Financial Group Inc to become financial for the county Floyd Westerman who has been the countys financial adviser for many years is moving from the firm of Allison Co to Knibbe Financial Group and Allison has agreed to the change of affiliation by clients such as Guadalupe County accepting for county maintenance the roads in Whisper ing Valley subdivision Road Admi Turppa will make a recommendation regarding tance of the roads approving request for the Road and Bridge Department to buy a used truck cab and chassis on which a water tank can be mounted Gramm to be speaker at Chamber Council to discuss future growth of Seguin Agribusiness Pg SB Schraub takes oath as administrative judge By BARRY HALVORSON Staff Writer Several items dealing with finan cial matters and the future growth will be topics of dis cussion when the Seguin City Coun cil meets in regular session at 5 Tuesday Feb 5 in the council chambers at City Hall Two items involve reports being presented on the citys financial standing One will be the presenta tion of the audit report for fiscal 198889 which will be made by Ken Finch of the firm of Ernest Young The second will be the presenta tion of the quarterly financial report which will be given by city finance director Ted Season In Beason will introduce a resolution providing for adjustments to the 198990 operating budget Other finance items will include discussion and possible action on the possible sale of a fire depart ment vehicle and on use of a Lower Colorado River Authority rebate That rebate totalling resulted from higher than Pgs effective Feb It He was named to a fouryear term replacing James F Clawson Jr of Helton senior judge of the Judicial District whose term expired State Rep Edmund Kuempel Seguin introduced Schraub ling the swearingin ceremony Fri day morning during which District Cleric James Behrendt administered the oath of office Schraub after taking the oath described his duties as administra tive judge
