Santa Rosa News (Newspaper) - August 26, 1965, Santa Rosa, New Mexico NEW MEXICO'S BILINGUAL NEWSPAPER ON U.S HIGHWAYS 66 84 54 osa SANTA ROSA NEW MEXICO DEDICATED TO THE PROGRESS OF THIS CITY COUNTY ANQ STATE VOLUME XXXVIII ROSA COUNTY NEW August 26 1965 No 26 Well everyone seems to be overly pleased with the State Fish Hatchery dedication and the becue which followed except the handful of JOHN BURROUGHS supporters When Chamber Pre- sident JOHN J COURY paid tribute to NOR JACK M BELL at the barbecue the BURROUGHS fans thought BIG JOHN kinda got carried away with his admiration and sonal friendship of the Chief of State BIG JOHN said that GOVERNOR CAMPBELL had the biggest Santa Rosa following of any ernor in the last twenty years Since the Peanut King was present at the Chamber barbecue we wouldn't say whether that was the place to say it or not but BIG JOHN was right in what he said and the past votes of G u a d a 1 u p e County prove it In fact the first time Peanuts er GOVERNOR ROUGHS ran he was elected despite lupe s vote Our county went for GOVERNOR EDWIN in 1958 by a count of 1290 However he did bounce back in 1960 to clobber Mechem 1562 but still lost the Governor's office Back to what BIG JOHN said about his GOVERNOR C A M BELL he has really sorta been Guadalupe County and Santa Rosa's favorite He has carried Guadalupe County both times he has run In 1962 he ca r r the county 1448 HOG over MECHEM And last year wow he rolled up 1623 votes he re over M E HI E TUCKER'S 1020 dalupe gave him vote margin So BIG JOHN was right GO VE RNOR CAMPBELL does have a bigger following in Santa Rosa than any ernor in the last 20 years maybe even longer 603 vote margin ain't exactly peanuts JIM the chief of the federal fish hatchery told me this week that he had had such a wonderful time at the state fish hatchery dedication they thought they would cl e d i e a t e theirs next week I to hi him that since the ernor had dedicated state
