you are a healthy adult forget about getting a flu shot in New Mexico this year The state Health Department had expected to receive shots for adults from Chiron Corp That was before British regulators forced the company to halt production Tuesday The state will still get doses for children from Aven tis Pasteur the sole remaining manufacturer of flu shots for the United States said Steve Nickell and Fe Community College on Tuesday night About 100 people watched the debate and some later took part in a forum Debate draws By STEVE TERRELL The New Mexican Though some say the debate is merely a sideshow of the debates between the presidential candidates the party at Santa Fe Community Col lege on Tuesday attracted about as many people as the first presidential debate did last week However Tuesdays event seemed to have a much larger number of sup porters of the John John Edwards Democratic ticket than those support ing Republicans George Bush and Dick Cheney an unsurprising fact in a county where Democrats outnumber Republicans by better than 3 to 1 The audience of about 100 watched the debate on a large television screen in the colleges Jemez Room Mike Simons of Santa Fe speaks in support of Cheney to Dupuy of Ellen Dupuy wife of radio announcer Dupuy laughs at a Cheney comment Despite the request from organizers not to turn the event into a many people couldnt restrain from applauding when Edwards made strong points against Cheney There were loud guffaws when Cheney claimed hed never suggested connec tions between the terrorist network and Sad dam Hussein And several hissed when Cheney men Democratic Sen Zell Millers speech at the GOP convention This is typical for a lib eral Democratic Santa Fe said John Dendahl a former state Republican chairman who attended worst of the storms that have drenched Santa Fe and dusted higher elevations with passed but that doesnt mean an end to the wet stuff for the week or if the area is lucky the next five or so months threeyear high in New Mexico increase here since a decline following the Sept 11 2001 terrorist attacks Apprehensions are up by 26 percent over last year in New Mexico and have increased by 17 percent across the Border Patrols El Paso sec tor which encompasses New Mexico and West Texas according to preliminary figures released by the federal agency this week The Border Patrol tracks statistics by
