golf pro Don R Zamora drove his ball from the tee straight into the hole and won a second drive this one in a 1991 Chevrolet Blazer The Blazer was his prize for scoring the at the Quail Run golf course during a tournament Crawford Chevrolet a Santa Fe car dealership offered the truck to anyone who accomplished such a feat on the ninth hole of the course Now Crawford wants the truck back or payment for it by a company that sold Crawford an Insurance policy covering the firm just in case someone did accomplish the unlikely shot The crux of the issue is this How do you count to nine Or 18 A court might have to decide that Crawford Chevrolet has filed a lawsuit in Santa Fe District Court against Zamora the Texas company that sells Quail Run and its golf professional Zamora who was competing in the Santa Fe Beautiful benefit tournament at Quail Run on July 9 got his on the ninth hole However it was his second time around the course during the 18hole tournament The insurance company The National Asso of Dallas says its policy is payable only on the first time around In other words on the ninth hole not the 18th Even though geographically speaking it is the same hole John Everhart president of National said the company had insured hole number nine and not hole number 18 We dont mind paying if a hole is insured A should be a great Everhart said But the 18th hole was not insured The ninth hole Zamora differs j There are only nine holes at Quail he said That makes the ninth hole hole number nine 1 just did what I was told to do 1 didnt lie I didnt deceive anyone I got a on the ninth hole Im Zamora golf pro at the Ladera Munici pal Golf Course in Albuquerque has refused to return the truck to Crawford but confirmed that he does not yet have the title A lawyer for Crawford Chevrolet said the lawsuit was filed to eliminate the inconsistency between the positions of Mr Zamora and of the National Association Either Mr Zamora scored a hole in one on hole number nine or he did Tom Velarde the golf pro at Quail Run said he believed Zamoras came on the 18th hole He said that when playing 18 holes of golf on a course the second time around that hole is scored as approved 151 by a Senate panel on Wednesday after adoption of a provision forcing artists to return grants if a court deems their project obscene Sen Jeff Bingaman a member of the Senate Education and Labor Committee supported the grant return provision which is known as a retroactive obscenity Washington arts lobbyists who represent scores of Santa Fe artists and organizations said they sup ported Staff Gov Carrey Carruthers and lawmakers begin a special session of the Legislature at 5 today without a firm agreement on a that would hold down the rising costs of insurance for injured work ers Sen Martin Chavez DAl cochairman of a task force that has drafted a to reform the workers compensation system said several issues are unresolved despite three meetings between members of the task force and the governors office Carruth ers attended two ofthe meetings Chavez and Rep Fred Peralta D Taos headed a 25member task force of six legislators and repre of labor management doctors and lawyers that developed a 150page this summer to reform compensation laws The task force recommended the more than a week ago Carruth ers objections to the measure include Creation of a insur today could find themselves hunt ing the corners of Santa Fe for lodging according to Santa Fe hoteliers We dont have said Mickey Stewart president and general manager of La Fonda a favorite hotel for many legislators Stewart said some legislators called ahead to reserve rooms about a month ago when Carrey Carruthers first said he planned to call a session on Sept 13 Carruthers did not officially call the session until last Thursday and the late call has left some legislators scrambling for rooms said Rep Ben Lujan DSanta Fe Because there was some spec there would be a session many of our regular legislators called us a month and a half Stewart said Even so few rooms were avail able she said We have a very few with us but not Stewart said Santa Fes high tourist season goes into October
