boys for of late it has been no mon thing for the boys to find in letters from homo money and postage stamps As a result the financial ing of B street has been much and the boys enjoying many little uries that have for the past few weeks been impossible and more letters than ever have been sent out of camp each day Yesterday the long-delayed state pay reached here and now no one in camp is without money A notable fact though is that nearly all the boys in our company sent at once the large portion of their money home either to be kept there for them or for the use of those dependent volunteer company at th armory At the drill the boys shower up well Capt Peck made no ments of non commissioned officers last evening and will not for some time cover themselves with glory They had been some distance in advance of the rest of the regiment and were advised by their scouts of the advance of a large body of the enemy in time to fall back under cover of a built up road unseen by the enemy whose first notice of onr presence was Capt Stroud's Halt where you are gentlemen you're all covered This applied to the skirmish line about 50 strong and they were all disarmed and marched to the rear under arrest almost before they knew what had happened The main body of the enemy were evidently un- certain as to onr strength and made no no further advance and soon after fell back in the advance of our main tody The result of the days battle was a de- victory for our side but Co B had no further active service The distance covered by onr company that forenoon was estimated at from 10 to 12 miles and as it was the hottest day we lave yet had 103 degrees in the shade few extras from time to time that are ot issued by this government Today 1 who could get away have gone to and the are now being changed rom drill in movements described in drill regulations to a study of the se of these movements in conjunction vith other companies and regiments and against other companies and nents Each movement depends on the of the other troops the ure of the ground and the position of in imaginary enemy quite as much as m the position of onr own company anc t makes a most interesting as well as instructive drill for the boys though as general rule rather harder than the regular drills have over been Co B's place has usually been in the skirmish me the most dangerous place but a the same time the place of honor and under Capt Stroud's orders they havi acquitted themselves most honorably Last Monday in particular did they in our street everyone was thoroughly ired when the camp
