Record By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS The death early today of a Baltimore pedestrian pushed Maryland's highway death toll for the year to 599 just 13 un- der the recod set in 1941 and the second highest total in tory The pedestrian in his was not immediately identified Military authorities reported early today that a soldier at Ft Meade died day night of injuries received when his car struck a tree on the base The victim was identified as Pfc David M Wallace 22 A companion Pfc Robert F Gintner 21 was critically in- jured in the crash He was taken to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington Three weekend victims died in an Anne Arundel County dent near Millersville on mas day Three others died in two separate U.S 40 crashes on Fairview Mountain near Clear Spring in Washington County A Hagerstown couple was killed on the mountain Sunday They were identified by State Police as Leonard John Grove 26 and his wife Alma 19 Thier daughter Pamila 3 suffered lacerations of the face and body Police said Grove's car ing west on U.S 40 was struck head-on by another car which skidded across the center line and knocked Grove's bile into a westbound pickup truck at the time of the collision area at the end of a week of unprecedented torrential rains adding to the suffering of still marooned and hampering relief and rescue work But the colder has jut a brake on rivers that had from the mountains to the Pacific Ocean in the hardest hit area Oregon and northern California More snow in the mountains and wind and rain below were forecast for today The Columbia dropped enough n Washington to permit start of cleanup work The flood threat appeared over in Idaho but the little town of St Joe population 75 in the Panhandle still was without electricity In Nevada the Truckee JAMES PICKERELL DAI NGAI South Viet Nam AP Government forces overran a major Viet Cong ion Sunday killing at least 67 and capturing 10 ers as well as a large stock of weapons It was one of the most cant government successes in he past year U.S officers be- that the position 75 miles southwest of Saigon was a Viet zone command The Communists have di- vided South Viet Nam into en zones The
