of Community Cere Center News Courthouse Emmetsburg Iowa May 16 2000 The Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Members Charley Naig Lannie Miller Mary Greene Leo Goeders and Steve Nelson The minutes of May 9 2000 were read and approved as read Poor Fund Applicants were reviewed by the Board The County Engineer discussed various road and drainage matters with the Board Motion was made by Greene and seconded by Nelson to approve an underground utility permit application to be installed by Northwest Telephone Coop Assn of Iowa in Great Oak Township Section 26 Motion carried Motion was made by Miller and seconded by Goeders to approve an overhead electric line permit application to be installed Lakes Electric Cooperative of Estherville Iowa in Section 16 17 Vemon Township Motion carried Motion was made by Goeders and seconded by Miller to approve the following persons employment starting date and salary Motion carried Starting Date Wage hr Probationary Cylinder Irene McCoy per yr Assistant to Engineer Dean Mattoon per yr Assistant to Engineer John Wright's annual wage will be adjusted to Effective Motion was made by Goeders and seconded by Greene to approve a transfer of from the Special Revenue Fund to the Debt Service Fund Motion carried Motion was made by Milter and seconded by Nelson to set May at in the Courthouse Boardroom as a date time and palce to hold a public hearing for various county budget amendments Motion carried Motion was made by Miller and by Nelson to purchase a sanitary waste disposal trailer from Wilkens of Morns Minnesota in the amount of Motion carried The Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors held a right of way approval damage appraisal approval hearing for Steven F and Lana Ruppert landowners in Drainage District Motion was made by Miller and seconded by Goeders to accept and approve the report of appraisers for acquisition of right-of-way for as recommended by the report of appraiser Motion carried COUNTY RESIDENTS Each year some residents of Palo Alto County have been making unauthorized use of the Secondary Road right of way These violations will be dealt with as per the Code of Iowa and Palo Alto County Ordinance No 8 Violations that will be observed and corrected 1 Excavating filling or plowing in the road right of way This includes planting crops or grazing of animals in right of way 2 Dumping or throwing rock or debris upon the road right of way This includes any burning of trash or debris in the road ditches 3 Placing any fence other than right of way fence on road right of way Also placing billboards ing signs or devices on road right of way It is the Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors right and duty to correct these situations Any cost to correct these violations will for the week of May 8th through May 14th 2000 On Monday morning we began our week with a game of After exercising our arms we read the news and judged the poster for nursing home week In the afternoon we had music with Bredehoeft leading us and Vera Whiting playing the piano Tuesday we began with Rosary and then played 500 with the help of Dorothy Moore Gail Jacobsen and Nadine Christiansen In the afternoon we played bingo with the Club serving us lunch Helping us with bingo was Roger Thorson LaDoma Rierson Sylvia Jensen Margaret Stangl Dorothy Campney Charlotte Meyer Gail Jacobsen Mabel Bulit Betty Loomis and Eleanor Peterson Wednesday morning we had our book buddies from first grade reading to us They gave each of us a flower with their picture on it and we really appreciate their thoughtfulness We will miss not having you hear on Wednesday We cannot believe how well you all read and we enjoyed our time with all of you After lunch we had our tag students for the last time before school is out This has been alot of fun for us and we hope to see all of you again The neat plant was appreciated In the afternoon we had a very meaningful Bible study with Pastor Ray Stauffer from the United Methodist Church in Ruthven We enjoyed one of Elsie Jones cookies after Bible study Thursday morning we had Lutheran communion with Pastor Thoresen In the afternoon we had our bowling match between the Roadrunners and the Wildcats The Wildcats won by six points today We only had two strikes and they were made by May Shirk and Ralph Spares were picked up by Mary Anderson Rex Wilson Rita Carl Johnson and Betha Williams Thursday evening we enjoyed playing bingo Friday we played card bingo and read the paper We discussed alot of topics In the afternoon we had community coffee furnished by Jean Lind and Helen We appreciate their devotion and great lunch Saturday we had our monthly birthday party with the ladies serving BOARD OF EDUCATION Monday May 8 2000 P.M Room 301 The Board of Education held Its regular monthly meeting with the following Forey Olson Petersen Suhr Sundall Williamson Fraley Peters Reynolds and Rowlands All motions carried by unanimous vote unless otherwise stated President Olson called the meeting to order Motion Petersen second Forey to approve the agenda motion carried School Board Recognition Cards snack and mementos were presented to the Board by staff and students The Board wishes to thank the staff and students for their special NHS Trip Sarah Knoer and Megan White reported on and showed photos of their trip to Chicago Enter Industrial Technology Mr Bentz showed the Board new modules that have been purchased during the last few years as well as student projects Motion Williamson second to approve minutes of April 10
