   Ruthven Zipcode (Newspaper) - May 24, 2000, Ruthven, Iowa                              600 DES LA Ruthven Iowa 51358 USPS Volume XXXI No May 24 2000 Photos by Patty Kenny Above left is Tim Henningsen with his First Place cedar chest top right Scott Hansen shows off his display of his coffee table that received second place Far left Danielle Clouse earned a Best of Show with her drawing and Fallon Schneider her folding lawn chair The above projects from the Industrial Art and Tech show plus many more pieces were on at the school Watch next week's paper for Graduation photos Art and industrial Tech Awards winners announced By Patty Kenny Winners of the Art and Industrial Tech Awards were announced Wednesday evening May 10 at the school In the K-12 Art Show Honorable mention went to Alesha Sikora Caitlyn Reed Tyane Baker Katie Clasing Kody Upton Stacy Sikora Zaeh Williamson Alena Williamson Jordan Sanculi and Amanda Smith First Place winner in the Art Show was Travis Daugherty with an acrylic painting Second went to Brian Bland with a picture done with an airbrush and colored pencils Third was Nathan Rosacker with a pen and ink Best of Show went to Danielle Clouse with a pencil sketch Several students also participated in the University of Okoboji Art Show at the Expo building in Spirit Lake on May 8 Danielle Clouse placed 2nd with a fishing chair entitled Fishing Okoboji and Heidi Carroll received a 3rd place with her computer drawing Other participants were Travis Daugherty Falion Schneider Nathan Rosacker Brian Bland and Stacey Japenga This art show was sponsored by Art World at Spirit Lake and the following schools Terril Spirit Lake Harris Lake Park Cherokee Winners of the Industrial Tech Awards were also announced Wednesday evening May 10 They are First Place Tim Henningsen with a cedar chest Second Place went to Scott Hansen with a coffee table Third Place went to Brian Bland with a gun case and fourth place to Matt Cacek with a mission style coffee table Local high school musician Meredith Allen will tour Europe with Iowa's Ambassadors of Music IAM July 2000 The Iowa Ambassadors of Music tours Europe on alternate years To be considered for membership in IAM a student must be recommended by their music teachers as having superior music skills and be of high character After this initial recommendation the students are contacted about the opportunity to participate in the tour This select group of 490 high school and college musicians and music teachers will tour Europe this July The event will include three days of rehearsal in Cedar Rapids Iowa a farewell in the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids and a concert tour covering England France Switzerland Germany Austria Italy and Liechtenstein Dr Morgan Jones of Iowa City will conduct the Iowa Ambassadors of Music Band and Dr Paul Torkelson of Wartburg College will conduct the choir Fifty Iowa music teachers will assist in the preparation of the groups The Iowa Ambassadors of Music toured Europe in 1988 1990 1992 1994 1996 and 1998 Meredith Allen is the daughter of Robin Allen and Steve Peterson of Ayrshire Iowa She is a member of the Ayrshire High School Band Her high school band director is Mr Tim Nielsen
