   Ruthven Zipcode (Newspaper) - December 18, 1991, Ruthven, Iowa                              Public Hearing on Whale Grade Sharing Ethel Evans a resident of the Ruthven Community Care Center is shown above as sine enjoys holding little Samantha Jewell of Emmetsburg the granddaughter of Rose Ann Truelson who is one of the cooks at the Care Center Samantha seemed to be enjoying it as well Storm Debris to residents At their regular meeting the City of Ruthven Council members voted in favor of residents of Ruthven taking care of hauling away their own debris and tree branches caused by the recent ice should be taken to the dump on their own or through a private source Church Christmas Schedules Be sure to check the Church Page for the times of Christmas Services and programs of the different churches in the area The Basketball Cheerleading Squad were on hand at the home basketball game against the Terril teams Pictured from bottom to top Sami Voss Dawn Buettner Stacy Buettner Jill Johnson and Chanda Weir A Public Hearing was held in the Community School on the subject of a proposed Whole Grade Sharing Agreement to be entered into with the South Clay Schools The schools were in attendance to answer the questions of the more than one hundred people that attended the hearing The two schools are scheduled to sign a Whole Grade Sharing Agreement on January According to Superintendent Edward Bleeker of the School a good deal of time was spent discussing the options open to the people for students There is a lot of interest concern and questions We tried to get the information written down that was asked and we will be studying their This information will be used by the Board to make their decision on January 27 stated Supt Bleeker Bleeker went on to say a great deal of time was spent discussing how transportation would be handled the youngsters may ride buses the additional transportation would be a considerable large added expense Parents of students at the two schools have thirty days from December 29 to January to request that their child be allowed to attend a contiguous school district if they prefer not to go along with the Whole Grade Sharing Agreement of these two schools A contiguous school district is one that is a border adjacent school district The school boards have the right to reject the requests However a request may be denied by the school board In that case a request may be made in 45 days for Open Enrollment to any State school the parents may want to provide transportation for their student to attend Both schools are planning to host Open Houses for their districts to view the other's facilities The School will hold their Open House on January 8 1992 from P.M The South Clay School will hold their Open House on January from P.M Ruthven will be sending a bus at p.m and one at p.m for people who would like to view The South Clay facilities will be a Public Meeting held -22 at the Community School in the gym at p.m to discuss the issue of the Whole Grade Sharing Break-in at Business The R R Food Center was broken hours on Sunday evening The break-in was discovered early Monday morning by a bread truck driver He left a note for proprietor Ron who notified authorities Entrance the building was gained when a window was knocked out where the conditioner was located The window is located at the rear of the building According to Police Officer Pat Sheda Cigarettes VCR tapes Beer and an undetermined amout of money was taken in the in At this time the incident is still under investigation and no monetary amount of damage has at this time There was also a break-in at the All in the Family Cafe and Lounge in Graettinger on the same evening They reported a large amount of money taken arid damage to their front door was estimated to be between and Authorities believe the two incidents to be connected American Legion Opens Membership to Persian Gulf Veterans President Bush has signed a law extending membership in American Legion to the 2.2 million men arid women who served on Active Duty during the Persian Gulf War Membership in The American Legion is extended to all members of the Armed Forces of the United States who were on active duty or were called to active duty from August 2 1990 to a date to be determined by the president Iowa had over Reservists called to Active Duty from Army Navy and Marine units from around the state The Iowa National Guard and Air Guard had units which were called to Active Duty Personnel who were called to Active Duty are now eligible to join the world's largest and fastest growing veterans organization For more information contact your local American Legion Post or call today
