Lincoln Parish School Board in a special session last night voted to ac cept the State Insurance Plan for its personnel and staff though a problem had arisen earlier concerning the loss of a special life insurance plan presently carried by the majority of the per Superintendent of Schools Fred Higginbotham told the board that a problem was first noticed last week when the insurance people were about to meet with the teachers to explain the new State Insurance The problem is that under the new plan the insuree is not allowed to carry a life insurance with a separate company while carrying the State Insurance A majority of the teachers and staff employed by the board at present are under the Washington National Hospitalization plan with life and a separate life insurance plan under Life The new with the State of Louisiana acting as the agent and does not allow such Its the regulation of the state that if the board has the other life insurance plans Life then the school board is not eligible to par in the state Higgin botham The board cannot par in a group life insurance policy and still participate in a state Board member Thomas trying to explain the State Insurance Its not experience rated as is Washington I feel we have to do what is best for the majority of our Some question was raised on the loss of the life insurance plans graduated life insurance benefits where the break down includes for non professional for for administration at a cost of 28 cents per thousand with the board paying half and the employee paying the other half under the Life The Washington National Hospitalization plan included an equal sharing of the cost for the employee and the On an individual plan the employee paid and the board paid the same Under the family plan the employee paid and the board paid This included a life The new State Insurance Plan break down shows the individual employee plan costing the employee and the board The employee plus one dependent costs the employee and the board The family plan costs the employee and the board Life the State Insurance Plan shows a life plan costing per thousand or for If the board paid half of the employees share of the hospitalization and all of the life the boards share would equal Additional life under the State Insurance Plan can be obtained for one and one half times the employees For example if the employee earns he would be eligible for life benefits at per thousand with no board This includes a maximum of Ruth Bradford told the I dont know if you realize it but this state plan is politically She added that every time the states ad ministration changes so does the in surance Marty Beasley asked if there was any way to bring the problem to the teachers on a referendum and questioned strongly the loss of the life insurance provisions with Completing all the board voted in favor of the State Insurance Plan with Bradford and Beasley casting the only opposing The second matter taken up at the special meeting concerned a salary adjustment for from the Sales This is due to the fact that the Washington National Insurance Plan is paid in arrears meaning it is paid When the new State Insurance Plan goes into effect the teachers will be paying two premiums in one Higginbotham said that the proposed adjustment would help the teachers and staff in offsetting the extra cost at this particular The adjustment includes a for professionals and for non BATON ROUGE UPI Shrimping and crabbing in a cholera waterway of Vermilion Parish has been banned by top health who said discovery of the bacteria
