of Crown Prince Frederick was missing fro palace yesterday for several hours while his tutors and the household officials were In consternation The rumor was that the Prince had been abducted by the agents of his mother the former Crown Princess Louise The boy was found praying in the cathedral that his mother might re- turn The Socialists are using the Crown episode for political tion and the unpopularity of the ony monarchy appears to have been considerably heightened The carriage of Princess Mathilde sister of the Crown Prince was rounded by a crowd in one of the principal shopping streets of Dresden one day last week the cries of Give us our Louise were raised Princesa Mathilde was so frightened that when the police reached the scene she was escorted to a shop and eventually went out by the rear door another home eral similar incidents showing the un- popularity of the royal house have since the agitation caused by the elopement of the Princess Louise none of them has been mentioned in of Dresden Was Here Afore de War MONTGOMERY W Va Miarch 7 Kelther a white man today celebrated her day with religious service at her home Mrs Keither was born in South lina She has vivid recollections of Incidents preceding the war of 1812 She is the mother of thirteen children but only two are living Another New Building Hon A E Cheney will construct a two story brick building on his lot be- tween the Bruener Furniture store and the Ryland block The Judge advertises for bids for the excavating of the basement in today's paper Discharged Victor Basino was arrested after the cutting affray yesterday and placed in jail He remained there all night and as no complaint was filed against him this morning THAT WABASH STRIKE still Postpone Other Road Will be In Controversy ST LOUIS Mo March 7 Far into the night the for the trainmen were busy at work last night of the petition on which the motion for a dissolution of the injunction will be based At 9 o'clock this morning with a corps of stenographers they took up the work again but all the energy they are putting forth they said this morning that they could not definitely state just when the answer to the in- junction would be completed The attorneys have the entire field now and nothing will be done until they are ready to file the answer In the United States District Court The members of the grievance com- are the corridors of their different hotels consulting among themselves and patiently waiting for the completion of the legal ment At the Wabash general offices dent Ramsey and the road's legal ad- visers are simply waiting for the sel of the grievance committees to act The employes are working along as usual throughout the system ing a rumor that the other roads will Join In a strike be declared Vice Grand Master Lee of the hood of Railroad Trainmen said Talk of other roads joining us in a strike is all foolish only way that could arise would be in a road assisting a road on which a strike is declared by ing men to fill the strikers places In that case it Is probable the grand masters would notify the lodges of the assisting road that this was being done and order a pool for a strike ever we fire going to fight this out with the Wabash only The real grievance is not a case of wages A violation of the old schedule Is one of the causes of the complaint This is done by the com- pany putting on preferred regular rews that get a monthly salary This uts the brakemen's pay from two cents a mile to about one and a ter cents conductors from three to two cents while engineers and firemen re- the same for working on the trains as for any other freight train But this is not the worst feature of the arrangement After the company had these runs well established the mana- ers commenced to pile on the abuses so fast that one could hardly believe the orders posted in the bulletin boards The first of these was that crews on Detroit and Chicago runs after running 270 miles switch out the and take It down town out additional pay The next was 101 miles each way added to the St Louis merchandise run making 202 miles in the round trip additional with un Increase of about per month The additional mileage alone would make a brakeman per month as it is a daily run saying nothing of the two hundred miles he had already made The next was the Detroit and Chicago crews after making 207 miles they would wait at Detroit until cars are received and take them down town before being relieved But this is the straw that broke the camel's Not satisfied with all this for nothing they put two engines on and make them handle a dead train outside of the high class and they wonder what we are kicking about After we work like slaves all winter in all kinds of ther without rest often for at a stretch we are told we have ing to complain of In the spring when navigation op- ens up and business drops off these preferred crews with the big engines can handle about half of the business and the rest of us can eat dried ball or wait until nice cold stormy winter comes around again with its sleet and ice on the running boards on top of the cars The Adams injunction even takes away the right to quit the company's service and if made permanent they can hold men as bonded slaves Now I for one an O R C man and one who voted against a strike believe In upholding the B of R T
