State Central committee called the convention to order ami appointment of James H Ian of Green Buy as temporary chairman is a young man of not more than thirty years of age the selection being made in recognition ot the young democracy lie spoke in part as lows We have assembled today for the pose of choosing delegates to the tional convention at Kansas City to be held on the Fourth of July 1900 at which time tho man will he chosen who will succeed Wm as president of the United States on March 4 1001 Tho platform they adopt may not be the same as adopted by the Democratic party in Chicago in 1890 but the once between the two will be so small that it will take the eye of an expert to discern the difference and I am fied that standing on platform and fighting as vigorously and earnestly as he did in Win Jennings Bryan will be the man whom the Democratic party will crown the loader of men in the United States 1 the opportunity of tho has arrived Tho Re publican party and the present admin have given this government four years of broken pledges nnd broken promUes They may to you of their prosperity but when we look us and see the misery and trials of the poor limn we must admit it is ity of wealth und not of labor Look where we may see the laboring man engaged iu a life ami death struggle for exigence with capital On the matter of trusts he The Democratic National convention at Kan nas City will I douht not adopt a form for the regulation of trusts The cry of the people has heard The formation of these organic trusts has in the throwing out of ment thousands and thousands of ing men and from the families nnd loved ones of these laboring mer their only of subsistence a Republican administration these trusts havo been from infancy unti they have attained tho proportions of a and Republican tho by their campaign tions nnd otherwise to such tin extent that the Republican party it im possible to without them Tho Creator part of Republican party campaign contributions come from the trusts of the country who in turn tho amounts back into their own ury by tho reduction of wages of the boring men they have coerced into ing tho Republican ticket He then attacked the National for tho course pursued in the enactment of the Porto tariff Tho administration was also criticised on its campaign policy in deluging on that island u horde of office-seeking Tho speaker continuing We soon our armies on foreign soil in tho far Philippines we have entered without disclosing our purpose or our ul- timate object Wo aro seeing the flower of our American manhood being again to Hint spirit of imperialism Most oi those foreigners who have come to our shores havo como escape burdens of standing army and the spirit Imperialism that burden of foreign tries and now today when we see surrounded by what bo turned into peace nnd plenty the very things that turned those from their fatherlands aro transpiring here to make our common people discontented with their lot increase their and taxations It is for the Re- publican party to proclaim for what pose we are now waging war in If we lire honest in our purpose simply to restore pence and then to establish a government for these ple the war could be easily ended by making our declaration publicly to be but backed as jt is by that gi ng money power nnd the Republican it will make no declaration until hat element sees fit to allow it The national convention will against those evils that raise their in protest to heaven He closed vith a plea for harmony in out the work of the convention At the conclusion speech on credentials and permanent organisation were appointed and a recess taken Of the to be chosen his afternoon D L Humor of seems to have no opposition David S Rose of Milwaukee also will be The other candidate who stand a show are George Hilton of Oshkosh George W Bird of Madison C Ii Hood of LaCrosse The reso will without any doubt endorse Uryan is ft m Little Son of Ira Martin of Raymond Racine Died from the Effects of A sad death occurred nt Milwaukee yesterday morning It was Ira M tin Jr son of Dr Ira K Martin a well known physician of Raymond Center Racine county The little child died hile under tho influence of chloroform administered for the purpose of ing a surgical operation Dr Martin took his son seven years of age to waukee and together with Dr T C they went to the of Dr Bach in the Hathaway building Dr Malone administered tho anaesthetic and Dr Bach performed the operation the purpose of which was the removal of a small growth from the nasal passage Everything appeared to be oil right and operation was practically completed when the boy suddenly collapsed and died Tho boy's father and the other two physicians labored over him for a lonf time but could not revive him death was due to the action of the chlor on the heart The cuse was re for investigation to the coroner who merely took the statements of the physicians in regard to the case Dr said sure that had been properly done Dr Malone is Ms personal friend and was requested to attend the operation for the particular purpose of administering the chloroform of which only a small quantity was given in a careful manner Dr Martin was satisfied that the death of his son was an unavoidable accident Restoratives were at hand and were quickly applied Another was hastily called and for a long time these four all human skill could do to save the little boy but it was all in Little Ira's spirit had winged its wav to other worlds than ours and nothing remained for the heart broken
