State Goes Dry By Upwards of City Except Richmond Norfolk and Alexandria in Prohibition Reverses Itself and Cives a Majority Against Local Option to the Surprise of Nearly Every body Its over and the state has gone dry by some ma All the cities and towns except Richmond Norfolk and gave prohibition majorities and reports so far received indicate that not more than a if that many of the 100 counties gave a ma against prohibition While the result in all of the large cities of was a surprise the biggest sur prise of all was the dry ma in It was expected that Petersburg would give a small majority for local option but few there were who the city would give a prohibition majority But Petersburg was simply in of the prohibition avalanche and could not escape Whatever individual opinion may be the majority has spok en and at the expiration of two years from November the li censed sale of liquor in Vir ginia will cease The prohibitionists are jubi they certainly have a just cause for Payne of Petersburg passed away yesterday afternoon about oclock at her residence 511 Fifth street Ports Va Newton was well known in Petersburg and a daughter of the late Thomas F Payne the wellknown tailor Mrs Newton suffered a stroke of paralysis in April 1913 from which she re Besides her husband Mrs Newton is survived by one son and three brothers Messrs Wm Langdon and Police Sergeant J Ernest carried a shower bouquet of Brides roses and lilies of the valley The maid of honor wore a costume of white crepe cle chine with trimmings of pearls and carried an armful of white chrysanthemums The brides maid wore a cos tume of white accordian plaited crepe de chine with trimmings of silk lace and carried an armful of yellow chrysanthe mums Immediately after the cere mony the happy couple left for a northern honeymoon The Bride is a very attractive young lady and is the daughter of Mr and Mrs William Rob ertson Williams The groom is a prosperous young farmer of the county After October the
