lawsuits By Glenda Vosburgh University may be hit once more if a claim against the city by a district judge whose home was the scene of a hostage ordeal becomes a lawsuit Attorneys for State District Judge Jolm M Marshall of University Park are seeking million in damages from the city Park Cities attorney Peter filed the claim on Feb 4 on behalf of Marshall his wife Mary Ann and their daughter Victoria The latest claim brings to four the number of major actions against the dty Three are lawsuits two of which involve the UP police department Marshalls claim which is not a lawsuit also involves the Marshalls claim steins from the Aug 6 incident in which Walter Lewis III held Marshall hostage at liis home after Perryman allegedly shot and killed a Dallas woman Mrs Marshall and their daughter hid in a closet throughout the three hour ordeal Marshalls claim says ferryman threatened him his wife and daughter at gunpoint Police say apparently did not know Mrs were in the house The family of Deanna Smith who Perryman is accused of killing filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Perryman in August The ci ty of UP was added to the suit in October Both claims contend that Univer sity Park police officers were negligent in not arresting Perryman prior to the shooting Police records show a motorist told officers at about 2 am that a man was standing in the street near Airline Road and Rankin Street pointing a ri fle at passing cars Officers found Perryman standing in the front yard of his home in the 3200 block of Rankin holding a shotgun according to police reports Police radio transcripts show that although Perryman hid behind a fence when he saw the flashing lights on a police car officers concluded he pos ed no threat Less than two hours later police say Perryman shot Smith as she drove her car near Hillcrest Avenue and Milton Street He then forced his way into the Marshall home accor ding to reports Perryman who Marshall released from Psychiatric Hospital in
