results Sunday Koresh to end standoff WACO Texas AP For a third time religious cult leader David Kor esh is promising to end his 47day standoff with lawmen as soon as he finishes writing a manuscript Koresh who twice broke promises to exit the compound where four Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Fire arms agents died in a Feb 28 gun battle said Wednesday he is working on a written treatise of his religious preachings When finished he will surrender said his Houston attorney Dick DeGuerin David has been working day and night composing a manuscript that will be delivered to me upon which he will then come DeGuerin said DeGuerin learned of the composi tion Wednesday morning during an hourlong conversation with Koresh and his righthand man Steven Schneider Schneider read the letter to DeGuerin writings are intended to unlock the biblical book of Revela tions seven seals signs said to pre cede the end of the world This written revelation of the se ven seals will not be sold but is to be available to all who wish to know the DeGuerin read from his notes on the letter Though most view the latest prom ise to be a sign that an end to the stan doff could be in sight Schneiders attorney Jack Zimmermann threw all projected timetables off target The seven seals havent been sol ved in years I dont know how much longer its going to Zim mermann said Zimmermann and DeGuerin planned to leave Waco by Thursday They said they didnt expect to return until Koresh is finished with the man and is ready to put in motion plans for a surrender In the letter which has not been made available a possible deduction Tax deadline tonight By Sherrie Langston The Paris News A 21yearold Tyler man who fled local police was jailed on drug charges Wednesday Dewayne Rondell Hutton was stopped in the 700 block on West Campbell Street ab out after officers re a tip he was a suspected drug dealer Paris Police Det Jeff Springer first spotted Hut tons car at the intersection of 13th Street NW and West Campbell and radioed for backup After additional officers ar rived Springer stopped Hut tons 1989 Mazda according to department reports The detective asked Hutton to step from the car and the sus began putting something down the front of his pants as he got out according to reports Police contend Hutton had a small case containing two pieces of suspected rock co caine in his hand as he stepped from the car Officers tried to remove the items but Hutton slipped from his Amry jacket fleeing on foot into a wooded area be tween 7th and 9th streets NW Officers gave chase and patrolmen Jeff Kinslow and Andrew Bowmer eventually caught up with Hutton ar resting him at the scene Upon a search of the car of found a 380caliber automatic handgun under the drivers seat 19 pieces of what is believed to be rock co caine and a smoking pipe Hutton was charged with possession of a controlled sub stance evading arrest and unlawfully carrying a weapon Justice of the Peace Pete Wilkerson set bonds totaling WASHINGTON AP With a midnight deadline approaching the IRS offered some final guidance today to as many as 25 million couples and individuals who dont believe in filing their tax returns early The first rule Dont panic Second dont think an innovative excuse will get you off the hook for failing to file The Internal Revenue Service has heard them all There was the certified public accountant in Dallas who didnt file for two years claim ing he couldnt find any forms Another Texan skipped filing for several years and when pressed by the IRS demanded Didnt you get my death certificate I mailed it to The IRS expects 117 million couples and in to file sometime this year No one knows for sure how many have done so al ready but the latest count available through Friday showed only million had been received That was nearly 5 million below last years pace and the slowest in five years Professional tax preparers and the IRS have reached the same conclusion People de layed filing because their refunds would be smaller than expected or the worst sur prise they would have to pay when they file People who got refunds in the past are get ting less and so they are filing said Harry Buckley director of tax operations for Block Inc The reason President Bush reduced withholding from most workers pay checks last year in an effort to stimulate spending and that shrunk refunds Millions of taxpayers who filed early fig ured it out Buckley said We are preparing a lot of forms so workers can return to withholding levels Woman reports rape to police By Sherrie Langston The Paris News A report of a child found half naked in the street Wednesday night has turned into an aggravated sexual as sault investigation The child turned out to be a 28yearold woman who told police two men raped her She was taken to St Josephs Hospital and Health Center where she was treated and released A caller to the Paris Police Department about said a child was lying half naked at the intersection of Street NW and West Cherry Street When officers arrived they found the woman whose jeans were pulled down ar ound her knees and articles of clothing and her purse were scattered about She told police a white man and a black man picked her up on her way home and took her to a trailer house near Pattonville where they raped her after forcing her to drink enough beer and wine to be come intoxicated Afterwards they brought her back to town and dumped her in the street she said The Lamar County Sher Department is heading up the investigation since the incident is alleged to have occurred in Pattonville According to reports the woman knows the black male and has told police the name of the white male No arrests have been made in connection with the case She told police
