Page 11 OrrViews photo Submitted by TOM TROYER Rotary Club of Orrville “ Service Above Self,” the Rotary motto, was de fi nitely evident in this year’s selection of The Orrville Rotary Club’s Volunteer of the Year. Jarrod Brown received the award at the club’s program on April 21. According to Jenni Reusser, President of the Orrville Chamber of Commerce: “ Jarrod Brown has already proven himself as a caring, active and involved O r r v i l l i t e . He gives sel fl essly of his time and r e s o u r c e s . The Brown family and employees of Brown’s Furniture take care of mowing the bank between the Chamber of fi ce and railroad tracks, as well as shoveling the Chamber’s sidewalks and steps.” Jarrod serves on the Main Street Orrville Board and is active in organizing and setting up for the Annual Downtown Tailgate Party, coordinates and runs the tractor and wagon for hayrides at Home for the Holidays yearly event, and helps coordinate the Bloomin’ Orrville baskets. Main Street Executive Director Darrin Wasniewski said that when he fi rst spoke to Jarrod about Main Street Orrville, Jarrod replied, “ I do not like to give speeches or address large groups, but you can count on me to be a worker bee.” And what a worker bee Jarrod has been! It was an exciting evening to say the least as baseball players, coaches, school administrators, and community members fi lled Schmid Hall to witness the dedication and thank the Brenneman family for such a generous gift. The hall served as a great ‘ plan b’ for the rains that came just in time for the dedication of Fleet B. Brenneman Field, Orrville’s beautiful new baseball diamond. “ It really was the idea of Mr. Jon Ritchie,” said Carol Brenneman, “ and Scott Marshall did such a wonderful job working tirelessly on it and organizing the many volunteers Downey is 2009 ‘ Queen for a Day’ Fleet B. Brenneman Field dedicated Doc Rhoads shared his memories of baseball with Brenneman and said, “ Fleet’s spirit is on that diamond now and will be for a long time to come. Fleet B. Brenneman Field, doesn’t that have a great ring to it?” Written by RUTH REIFSNYDER for OrrViews Rebecca ( Becky) Downey was this year’s “ Queen for a Day.” On April 25, Becky experienced a day of pampering. The day began at 9: 30 a. m. at Making Faces Skin Care for a one hour facial by Chris Pauli, Esthetician. The remaining indulgences took place at Total Look Salon, LLC. The owner, Jan Duffy, provided a natural nail manicure, facial waxing and also highlighted and colored her hair. OrrViews photo See QUEEN on Page 13 Submitted by KYLE LIKENS The juniors and seniors of Orrville High School received the chance to taste a little of the Las Vegas life style at the 2009 Prom held on May 2nd. For the week leading up to prom the prom cochairs Chase Hoobler, Chelsea Bishop, Kyle Likens, Jessica Workinger, Rachel Davis, Jessica Handwerk and Kyle Osburn, with the help of the prom- attendants and many other students worked tirelessly, under the guidance of Connie Dudas, at the transformation of the high Brown Prom attendants were ready to greet the prom goers in Vegas fashion. Left to right are Meg Sullivan, Derek Vance, Nathan Rosenbaum, Brooke Benner, Jacob Brenneman, Sarah Johns and Kelli Lichti. Other prom attendants were Hillary Plybon, Lilly McMillan, Lauren Ritchie, Justine Harrison, Tara Besancon, Kylee Myers, Rochelle Lefever, Samuel Reusser, Kyle Zook, Cory Hedberg, Jacob Brenneman, Zach Troyer, Max Pirman, Zach Wasson, Travis In fi eld and Kyle Kolleth.
